Ruth jezard & edward court

Dear Family History UK

Our ancestor Ruth Jezard/Thrasher (maiden name) or Ruby Court (married name) was an actress (born 1879 Holborn) to Robert Thrasher and Priscilla May Thrasher (Pope) who later remarried to John Jezard.

We have found Ruth Jezard in The Stage archive, 28 December 1899 playing at The Royal Drury Lane Theatre in the pantomime Jack & The Beanstalk, that was a lavish production - in the audience on 26 December were Ellen Terry and Henry Irving who lived in Earls Court as did our family.

Ruth Jezard married Albert Edward Court (born 1874 Norwood) in 1900. In the 1901 census Albert and Ruth (Edward and Ruby Court) are living in Lillie Road near The Empress Theatre with Edward shown as a private secretary. Would Ruby be acting at The Express Theatre and Edward working as a private secretary here?

In 1905 Ruby and Edward's son Edward Leslie Court is born and Edward Court's job on his son's birth certificate is Chief Of Staff at the Coliseum. In the 1911 census Edward is living at 30 Rayleigh Road, West Kensington working as a rink manager (probably a roller-skating rink as this was a craze in late Victorian/early Edwardian times or could be an ice-skating rink). We cannot find Ruth/Ruby in the 1911 census so she may be abroad acting as their son Edward is staying with his Uncle Herbert Lewis Solomon, Aunt (Grace) Alice Maud Mary Solomon (Thrasher/Courtenay) and Cousin Horace Courtenay in Kew.

(Grace's) sister Louisa Thrasher (born 1874 Holborn) marries Percy Frederick Atkins (born 1869 Brixton) in 1905. We have also been able to trace Percy in The Stage archive as a Theatrical Business Manager.

Please could you tell us if you know any more about the theatrical careers of our family. Thank you!
