Hello juliejtp,

Yes, their approximate ages in 1851 based on date of birth not the age in 1841 (which had some rounded down).

I am actually hoping the family is NOT there because I believe, apart from William's spouse's first name (perhaps an error in 1841), that it is my family that went to NSW in 1849:

Assisted immigrants arriving in Sydney & Newcastle, 1844-59
Surname Firstname Events Age Remarks Vessel Year Reel
SANDS William 38 and family Diana 1849 2135, 2459
SANDS Katron 34
SANDS James 14
SANDS Margaret 13
SANDS Elizabeth 11

Katron can also appear as Catharine or Catherine. Daughter Catherine born 1840 must have died before the family sailed.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

They dont seem to appear in 1851.

There is a Catherine Sands orphan born abt 1841 Dunfermline, they didnt do a home alone and leave poor Catherine behind ;D

Hello Juliejtp,

Thank you for looking. Oh my!

This is the family in 1841:

SANDS Age
Willm 30
Christian 25
James 7
Margret 5
Elizabeth 3
Catherin 8 Mo

William - age is ok rounded down - b. 1 Jun 1810 Torryburn
Christian should be Catharine - age is ok rounded down b. 9 Jul 1816 Dunfermline
James b. 17 Jan 1834 Dunfermline - birth can be found in SP
Margaret b. 3 Feb 1836 Dunfermline - birth can be found in SP
Elizabeth b. 10 Apr 1838 Dunfermline - birth can be found in SP
Catherine b. 1840 ? birth cannot be found on the microfiche in Dunfermline Library nor on ScotlandsPeople

Curious but it gets even stranger because two more children made the voyage and their births don't appear in the records anywhere that I can find either.

William Henry b. abt 1843
Jane b. abt 1848

I left them off last time thinking there would be no reason to mention them:

SANDS William 6 and family Diana 1849 2135, 2459
SANDS Jane 1 and family Diana 1849 2135, 2459

I wish I knew where they were born.

But, Catherine, I'm lost for words.

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

The orphan Catherine was from a different family after all. Details in another thread.

This one is complete.

Thanks.

Hello juliejtp,

PS:

From Chiad's list of Fife pre-1855 deaths I have just found this one:

SANDS Catharine Dunfermline d. 3 Jul 1843 bu 6 Jul 1843 3 yrs daughter of William Sands Measles Common Ground OPR 424-18

It is her. Everything fits.

Regards,

Dave
