Hello juliejtp,

Thank you very much. Yes it is Society for Janet. I have Alexander born in Dunfermline and the 1881 census had:
"Alexander Sands head age 28 occ slater born Dunfermline"

Marriage: FR4923 24 Jan 1848 Dunfermline - Posted Banns 8 Jan 1848 Abercorn, W Lothian FR1257

It will be interesting to see if we can find the first two children who died before 28 May 1855. There was a son born abt 1848 and another born abt 1849.

Please see if you can find the family in 1851. It may be Abercorn if Alex was actually born in Society but probably Dunfermline.

Thanks.

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

Thank you very much. Curious. I wonder why the family tree has the deaths of the first two sons as "before 28 May 1855" when neither appear in the 1851 census?

Perhaps Alexander was born in Society but his birth registered in Dunfermline? The fiche in Dunfermline Library had 'FR4193 Dunfermline'.

I'd like the family in 1861 next please.

Thanks.

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

Ok, thanks. There should be two children there in 1861 Alexander and James.

Adrian was born in Charlestown in 1862 so they could be there and not in Dunfermline town.

Regards,

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

If you can't find them in 1861 then please try 1881. Alexander will be gone because he married in 1874. James and Adrian are probably still there.

Thanks.

Hello juliejtp,

Thank you very much. Well, it was Charlestown. Yet another census that has Alexander born in Society. Curious, because I viewed the fiche in Dunfermline Library and it says 'FR4193 Dunfermline'. Their first two sons died between 1848 and the 1851 census and so far I can't find a birth for either of them. Perhaps not registered?? because I have no given names for either.

Adrian married in 1890 and you have already given me the 1891 and 1901 for him and spouse Mary.

Please see if you can find John, Janet and James in 1891.

Thanks.

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

Thank you very much. Yes, I was going to ask for 1901 next. :)

It seems Janet was born in the hamlet of Society on the coast just from Abercorn. The fiche in Dunfermline Library had this:
b: 5 Mar 1825 FR1190 Child 3 Abercorn

Grand daughter Charlotte is Catherine Charlotte McDonald SANDS born on 4 Aug 1880 Hutchesontown, Glasgow to parents Alexander and Catherine. I'd say her age is or should be shown as 20 in the census. Curiously, she is the only one of 8 who is with her grand parents.

It is said she married a John MORTON but the only reference I can find is a privately submitted IGI entry for a marriage to a John MORT in 1898 in Glasgow. Something is not quite right.

Regards,

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

Thanks for looking again. Oh, when I said I knew she lived to be about 80 I failed to say it looks as though she died in Dunfermline, Fife.

Regards,

Dave
