Re: SANDS family in Lanark in 1851

Hello Dave,
I don't know if this information would be useful to you but have a list of Sands families from Lanark in 1851 and where they originally came from.Several from Ireland originally and also Scots counties of Ayrshire,Renfrewshire and Perthshire. Will list then for you, if you want.Best wishes kerrymac.:)

Hello juliejtp,

Thank you very much. James was born in Bo'ness and must have died young. I knew Alexander was not born in Bo'ness but I had no idea it was England. The next one Jane Elizabeth was born on 25 Feb 1862 in Bo'ness.

In 1851 Adam is at home and his occupation is listed as weaver.

The only one in FreeBMD for 1858-1862:

Births Sep 1859
Sands Alexander Stoke Damerel 5b 271

That seems too far away.

Please see if you can find the family in 1871.

Thanks.

Dave

Hello kerrymac,

Thanks for the offer but my branch of the family originates in Torryburn, Fife.

David SANDS marries Margaret ELDER and a son James baptised 12 Aug 1725 Torryburn marries Phyllis ANDERSON on 5 Feb 1757:

5 Feb 1757 Culross 343/3 (Phillis) and Torryburn (Phyllis)
"Torryburn 1757 Feb 5 James Sands in the Parish of Culross and Phillis Anderson in this parish gave up their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage."

Regards,

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

Thank you very much. The note I have says James dies young but his death has not been found. Alexander is a real mystery. I have no other information on him. I wonder why they went to Devon - well it seems they did! Summer vacation? :)

Jane Elizabeth is probably still at home (she marries in 1882).

Please see if you can find the family in 1881.

Thanks.

Dave

Still no sign of Alexander in Scotland, there was one born England 1864 but when tracing back to 1871 he was with his mother Margaret but he was born Liverpool.

Hello juliejtp,

A post seems to have failed. I did reply yesterday and apologise for missing the fact you had given me the 1881 with Ann's sister Christina.

I've been having problems with sites never fully loading with them hanging while waiting for an ad server.

It seems the one entry in freeBMD is the correct one according to a SANDS family researcher I trust:

Births Sep 1859
Sands Alexander Stoke Damerel 5b 271

So far there is no trace of him after the 1861 census.

Please see if you can find Adam & Ann in 1891. Thanks.

Daughter Jane Elizabeth married John WRIGHT in 1882:

1882 WRIGHT JOHN SANDS JANE ELIZABETH BO'NESS /WEST LOTHIAN 663/00 0039

Please see if you can find them in 1891. Thanks. I have no children listed yet.

Regards,

Dave

Hello juliejtp,

Thank you. One last one please for this family and I'm betting they are at the same address in 1901. :)

Ann died in 1909 and Adam in 1911 both in Bo'ness. They were both born in 1831 but no record can be found in fiche or in SP. It seems many 1831 records are missing.

Regards,

Dave
