Hello,

This could turn out to be yet another of my Irish brick walls. ;)

Sarah COLEMAN b. abt 1814 Dublin d. 9 Jun 1875 Woolloomooloo, NSW

Parents:

Thomas COLEMAN b. abt 1782 d. 12 Dec 1856 Chippendale, NSW

Mary WARD b. abt 1787 d. 27 Jan 1863 Sydney, NSW

Marriage V183380 126/1833 GANDON ANDREW - FLOOD SARAH LD= St Mary's RC Sydney

Page 13 No 80 - 14 October 1833 I married
Andrew Gandon per Crocodile
Sarah Flood per Maria Ann
in presence of Thomas Coleman, William Whilan ?, Catherine Whilan
Rev. John McEncroe

I can find no such vessel 'Maria Ann' Entry in register does not mention status of either party.

Death #1349/1875 GANDON SARAH - THOMAS - MARY - SYDNEY

From Death Certificate:

Father = Thomas COLEMAN
Occupation: Painter
Age at Marriage: 19
Name of Spouse: Andrew GANDON
Years in Aust. Colony: 43 years in NSW

The Sydney Morning Herald - Friday 9 July 1875 p.8
DEATHS
GANDON.-June 9, Woolloomooloo, Sarah, relict of the, late Andrew Gandon, aged 61 years.

So, the name in the marriage register says Sarah FLOOD. Did Sarah arrive with spouse? This death would fit but is it just coincidence. ??? A witness at the marriage is a Thomas COLEMAN (must be Sarah's father). WHILAN must be an error in the entry or in my interpretation of it because I can find no such name in NSW BMD.

Death
V1831388 127/1831 FLOOD PATRICK
V1831390 127/1831 FLOOD PATRICK
V1831370 128/1831 FLOOD PATRICK

I have searched the Bounty vessels 1828-1833 and no sign of a 'Maria Ann' or similar named vessel or of COLEMANs or FLOODs.

Death
V18562095 143/1856 COLEMAN THOMAS AGE 74
1239/1856 COLEMAN THOMAS AGE 74 YEARS DIED CHIPPENDALE - CHIPPENDALE

The Sydney Morning Herald - Monday 15 December 1856 p.1
DEATHS
On Friday evening the 12th instant, at his residence, Dale-street, Chippendale, Thomas Coleman, painter, aged 74 years.

Death #126/1863 COLEMAN MARY - UNKNOWN WARD - MARY - SYDNEY

The Sydney Morning Herald - Saturday 31 January 1863 p.1
DEATHS
On the 27th January, in the 76th year of her age, Mary Coleman, relict of the late Thomas Coleman, house painter, an old and respected colonist, leaving a numerous family to lament their loss.

I presume they are both buried in Catholic Mortuary Rookwood. Rather curious the marriage was in St Mary's RC. I guess Andrew didn't mind even though he had been baptised in a Wesleyan chapel in Kent.

Don't know the names of other children of Thomas & Mary.

I've not found the marriage nor any more children.

I can't find the vessel and I can't find any of them in shipping records.

The word is ... stuck.
