Hi Gwyenth,

Can you please claify Sarahs POB as CALVADOS BASS-NORMANDIE is in France.
Hi Julie,

I have been researching my family tree with the help of David Hastings and ancestry web sites (I have my tree on there) and that is the exact birth place they have on there hence the brick wall I seem to have hit.
Thanks for your help but I'm no expert of where places are outside England and Wales:redface:

Hi Steve.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Friends

I have now established with the aid of 1841 Census that someone had added their own location Sarah was born in 1791 at TARNTON, GLOUCESTER, can anyone help me to trace her parents please.

Hi Gwen,

It seems there are quite a few trees on Ancestry looking for the same parents for Sarah.

I think it's Taynton not Tarnton

Steve.:)

Hi Gwen

Have you found Sarah in the 1851 and 1861 censuses? If so, does she give Normandie as her birthplace?

I just typed Eels into the Ancestry search engine and none seemed to be from France.

Hi Ben

I did a 1841 census search for her and found she was from 'Tarnton' Gloucester. which Steve thinks is probably Taynton mistranscribed, I have had several incidences where Ancestry have added hints from other trees where the researchers have added their own locations to birth living or death place, which is what had happened in the case of Sarah Eels and the Normandy location.

Thank you
Gwen

Hi

If Eels was her maiden name I would think that she was born in England and not Normandie in France.

I cannot find a possible baptism in Gloucestershire on the IGI but as said, the IGI is not complete.

Hi Ben,

I have found her in 1851 Census and 1861 Census together with husband Thomas Robinson only problem is in one census it says her birthplace is Tarnton, Glocester and in the other it says her birthplace is Tainton Oxfordshire, hence my confusion, I have also found a Sarah Robinson with husband Thomas living in Deerhurst Gloucester but not sure if she is my one, HELP!!!

Thanks
Gwen

Hi Gwen

I know that Oxfordshire borders Gloucestershire. Tarnton culd be near the border.

I did find a Stephen Eels on the 1851 census living in Great Badminton Gloucestershire born in Wychwood Oxfordshire. He could be a relation to Sarah.

Hi Ben,

I am not sure if this will help, but I also have a marriage date for Sarah of 13th October 1813, this is from another 'Tree', Can I get a cert for this? I have no ref number etc though? will this give me any information as to her parents or where she is from? I do not know what happened before 1837 when te index begins. Sorry to be a pain!

Hi Gwen

Unfortunately there are no official marriage certs before 1837. The original entry will give their names, date of marriage, the names of the two witnesses, whether by banns or license, whether of the parish or not and often they gave the marital statuses of the two spouses.

The witnesses were quite often relatives of the couple.

Hi Ben,

Please excuse this if it is a stupid question, but is there any way of viewing this record, preferably on line, I am not sure how things are done before 1937 to view the records. :)

Hi Gwen

Original parish register scans are not normally available online. If Woodcott is in Oxfordshire then it should be on thew Oxon Marriage Index. I am not sure though that all the marriage transcriptions have the names of the witnesses.
