I'm trying to find info on my great, great grandfather Jeremiah Twohig born 1828? i think in the Cork area. Worked in the Birkenhead and Liverpool docks in the 1860's and family then moved to Wigan. Any help would be good.

Hello,

The only Jeremiah Twohig I can find in 1871 and 1881 is living with his family in Newport, Monmouthshire.

Have you found your ancestor in Liverpool/Birkenhead/Wigan?

Maybe his name has been mistranscribed?

Please let me know if you have any more info.

:) Josie

Thanks for your advice. The Jeremiah Twohig I need to find died in Wigan in 1870 at age 42yrs, at that time the spelling was Toohig. His wife was Elizabeth and she is on the 1871 census living in Wigan with the children but not at the same address where Jeremiah died. Elizabeth died 1879.
I have some of his children born in Ireland, Edward 1855, Johannah 1858 and Michael 1860, some born in Birkenhead John 1862, Elizabeth 1864, Patrick 1867 and Ellen born in Wigan 1869.
Can't find the family 1861 uk census so I assume they were still in Ireland. Think they are from the Cork region but not sure exactly where, possibly Knockacoppull, Clondrahid, West Muskerry.

Hi there your thread came up via a Google search. Jerhamiah Twohig (spelling?) is my great-great-great grandfather. My grandmother lived in Wigan. I don't know much about my grandmothers family, did you find anything more? Thanks
