Hi, I am trying to trace my grandmothers Italian roots. She was born in Holborn in Sept 1904, having 2 older brothers born also in Holborn in 1902 & 1903 respectively.
the family went to Morfasso in northern Italy in early 1905, thereafter 8 more children were born of whom I only know about the youngest born in 1919.
My grandmothers name was Maria Antonia Teresa Secchi.
It would be nice to know about her other siblings, names, when they were born & also about her parents .
If you can help, Thanks, Gill

Hi Gillian,

Have you tried tracing Marias parents on the census. It may help to find out roughly when they arrived in England (may have been with parents and siblings) or they could have been British born. The National Archives at Kew hold the incoming passenger lists. I dont know whether Findmypast have them online.

Hi Julie,
Ireceived my nans (Marias) birth certificate yesterday & I have the 1901 Cencus where her father Eugenio Secchi was down as a builder in Clerkenwell part of London, He was down as being married then but no mention of his wife in the Cencus so I assumed she arrived in London later.
Eugenio was down as a builder in 1901 & on Marias' birth certificate he is down as an ice barman.

Hi Gillian,

I havnt across him on the 1901 census under Secchi Clerkenwell (some dodgey transcriptins of surnames). But found in the civil parish of St Andrew and St George Holborn Eugenio Secchi transcribed as Lecchi with a Andrea Secci occupations asphalter.

Hi, Julie,
On the 1901 Cencus Andree Secchi is living in the same property as Eugenio Secchi. That road was the same road as my nan was born in. I think the 2 Secchis were brothers & Eugenios wife must have come to England in late 1901, as first child was born in Feb 1902. Gill
