I am tracing the COLBY FAMILY and have ended up with a need to trace links in IRELAND which is causing me problems (being newbie to this game)

James Colby (or Colbey) born around 1860 in "ireland" - I know he came to England with his Brother Michael to Wigan and married around 1883.

James and Michael's father was Daniel Joseph Colby(Colbey) who I belive married Margaret Shiel - I got this from a 1999 web posting but cannot seem to find any other routes without paying out to join this and that with no guarantees.... I have no Ireland dates confirmed....

I appreciate any info on useful and ideally free sources and web URLS in Ireland to help my quest.

Anyone researching Colby(Coleby) is welcome to my leads if it helps. Just ask.

Thanks for the useful posts, I have updated some of the sites and added a few more - the Irish Forum could be useful to trace more into Ireland so I remain hopeful there

Out of interest many Colbys moved to Coventry from South Shields from where my wife Mary originates from.

Hello,

I'm looking for information on James Colby (1886-1946) who lived at 576 John Williamson St, South Shields (according to 1911 census). He married Eva Hindmarch (1892-1970) in 1909 in Lanchester.
Their daughter Ann (or Annie) Colby (1909-2008) married my Uncle, Percy Moore (1903-1987) in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. Percy lived in Warialda and Inverell. Anne's brother Martin Anthony Colby (1911-1973) also lived in Inverell, NSW.

Well, at least, that's what I think I know. Also looking for confirmation that I have these names and places and connection to my family correct.

thanks,

R G Moore
