Do the National Archives keep service records of WWI soldiers,if they do can i find out if they have the one i want before going down there,don't want to go then find they don't have it.Thank You.Cumbrian

If the records have survived the national archives would have the WW1 records. I dont know about if they will tell you before you go or not, maybe give them a quick ring first. I ordered mine from Australia and they wouldnt tell me before i ordered them if they had them or not, if they didnt have them i would have lost my money as it would be the cost to search for them. They had them so it worked out ok. It could be different if you are going in person??

I knew the Sherwood Foresters rang a bell with me. My great uncle was in the foresters in the boer war. I wrote to the below email address and they had a small amount of information on him so maybe it could be worth contacting this museum. They do not hold service records.
