Got stuck on this one.
Oliver John Brown - born 1825 St Martin in the Fields
Found on the 1861 and 1871 census where he is a police Officer but not on the 1851 or 1841.
He married in 1849 to a Ann Amelia Palmer - have the cert! where his father is shown as Timothy Brown - Artist not found any reference to him in any census!
Tried all I can think of apart from miss spellings!

Any ideas!

Peter

Hi Peter,

The 1871 census has Olivers mother with him who is Elizabeth Packer, going back to the 1861 Elizabeth is with Oliver and family her surname name transcribed as Pacher.

I'm more confused now, where did the Packer side come from!
From Johns marriage 19 Nov 1849 his wife is Ann Amelia Palmer her father a John Charles Palmer.
Olivers father is a Timothy Brown.
I suppose his mother could have remarried!
Just found a marriage elizabeth Brown to William Packer in 1838.
Getting more confusing!

Hi Peter,

I'm not convinced about the 1838 marriage. Elizabeth is classed as spinster and Williams occupation is victualler whereas his occupation in 1851 is master paper hanger

Found Oliver in the 1851 census - as a Police Constable along with 2 others in the same street(Safety in numbers I guess)
Strange thing is he doesnt show up on Ancestry but his son does(thats how I found it)

Mind you all this looking and no further information!

Hi Peter,

Still looking. I have'nt got any further. Was hoping that the Chater family family may have held a clue but have drawn a blank on them as well.

Hi Julie
Had a look for some more Brown,s and found something I do not quite understand!
When I first looked at the Timothy Brown baptism I thought it was saying that the mother Jane Taylor was deceased but now I think it must mean her maiden name!
See the preceeding record nad following records

If not the case then she had children when she was dead!!

Hi Peter,

John Chaters 1st wife may have been Jane surname unknow. There are a few children baptised to this couple 179's in Denmark Hill and one Marylebone.
