Hi,
My name is Ron Sisson and I live in Adelaide, South Australia.:D I am researching the name SISSON  (surprised?) and seeem to have landed up in Doddington, Cambridgeshire. I am coming over to England/Scotland in a couple of weeks tofurther my research as well as attend a music education conference in Manchester - yep, I am a music teacher!
I appear to have hit a brick wall with a Thomas Sisson/Scisson b.Mar 1713 in Doddington, Cambridgeshire. Possibly married twice. First wife Mary TILLY married 11 May 1737 in Doddinton. Second wife Elizabeth UFFINDELL married 5 Jul 1747. Children include John b.1740, Robert b.1741, James b.1746 d. 1746, Thomas b. 1748 d. 1750.

Any further information would be great. I can also provide details of John SISSON b.26 Oct 1828 in Eye, Northamptonshire and his wife Elizabeth STYLES b.13 Nov 1823 in Sarratt, Hertfordshire ,, They emigrated to Australia in 1851 and I have details of all descendents.

:D Do you need an ozzie family???

Cheers
Ron

Welcome to FHUK Ron! I live in Melbourne Australia. You will find plenty of helpful people on this forum. Just post on the most relevant board.

My advice would be to do as much of your research on-line before you travel to the UK. As someone who often combines Education conferences with family catch-ups and research, I've found that I consistently over estimate the ease of finding information about my rellies whilst I am there and under estimate the time it takes to uncover things.

It works better for me to send introductory emails well ahead of time, make appointments and manage my expectations tightly.

Cheers,
Jill

Hi Ron! On our Sisson ancestry webpage, we have information from another Sisson family that came from Doddington, Cambridgeshire, to Illinois in the United States, in the 1840s. For their information, go to
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dasisson/stephenson/aqwg01.htm.

We have a Sisson Y-chromosome DNA study going, and have found that there are 3 different unrelated Sisson groups (so far). Their points of origination in England are one in the Penrith area (Cumbria); and two that are from the Yorkshire/Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire general area (these two groups are each found to be related to some who use the spelling "Sissons" with final s.) This study has been going for 6 years so far, and has participants from the US, Canada, England, Ireland, France, and New Zealand. Please contact me at cregehr@yahoo.com if you'd be interested in participating! We have some information posted at:
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dasisson/sissondnaproject.html

We've also published a report on the study, in the journal _New England Ancestors_, last month (Holiday 2008). I can e-mail or snail mail you a pdf copy of that if you'd like.

We'd love to have an ozzie in the mix, and Doddington also!
