Ellie, I have checked the 1911 census here. He's not on it. I'm assuming he arrived here some time in 1911 after the census was taken. He didn't sign covenant either in 1912 because he wouldn't been entitled being Scottish

When William and Helen married do you not have both sets of parents from the marriage record?

Remember deaths give a lot of information in Scotland so if you search for Helen Harrison (women died in their maiden name mostly) with other name Smith you should get her parents and you can then search in the census for her at least

Unless you think they all came to Belfast? I am not sure if you mean Alexander and family or he with his parents

There is this one in Camlachie, Lanarkshire but not sure if you have given us Alexander year of birth. Father born in Ireland so could explain Alexander going there. The only one I can find on census who is the right age to marry in 1868 and with wife Ellen but could well be on wrong path!

1901 census
William Smith Head Married Male 61 1840 Steel Work Labourer Ireland
Ellen Smith Wife Married Female 52 1849 - Thornliebank, Renfrewshire, Scotland
John Smith Son Single Male 19 1882 Carter Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Alexander Smith Son Single Male 16 1885 Grocer Message Boy Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Caroline K Smith Daughter - Female 12 1889 Scholar Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Hi Barbara, Alexander came to Belfast with his wife Elizabeth. His father William was born in 1842 and his wife was Helen Harrison. I have them both at Woodburn Lodge in Rutherglen at their marriage in 1868 but don't have a parish to search birth records for William. Not even sure where my grandfather Alexander was born he was the only one that to Belfast for work at the ship yard. I'm going to check Titanic's work records to see what I can find

Thank you for your help. It's much appreciated
