soldier's effects

I am trying to help someone research George John Gatland who died in WW1 in 1917 and is on the Arras memorial. He was married to Margaret Martin of Hawick, Roxburghshire but was from Surrey. In the Soldiers effects she is mentioned as sole beneficiary in 1918 and then in 1919 but it looks like her name has changed to Margaret Leonard. If she remarried would she still get this money..? I have found no trace of a marriage either but am lacking knowledge in military genealogy. I am wondering if what looks like a surname Leonard is a place?

Can anyone help?
