8673/1904 VOGT JOSEPH M JOSEPH BOWRAL

The Catholic Press
Thursday 1 September 1904
Mr. Joseph Vogt, Mittagong. From Mittagong comes the news of the death of Mr. Joseph Vogt. The deceased, who was 83 years of age, could justly lay claim to having been one of the pioneer settlers of the district, having resided there for upwards of half a century. He was a native of Germany, and arrived in New South Wales in the early fifties. He first settled at Camden, but two years later he went to Mandemar, where he carried on farming pursuits for a period of 44 years. About five years ago, owing to his health failing, Mr. Vogt took up residence in Mittagong. The late Mr. Vogt leaves a widow and a family of three sons and six daughters, together wtih 45 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren. The remains were interred in the Catholic portion of the Berrima Cemetery. The Rev. Father J. Carroll (Adm., Moss Vale) officiated at the grave. -R.I.P.

It looks with 'Kate' that her mother was a witness at the wedding.

Age at death fits 1862 birth:

Hi Dave,

I have more information relating to this. Sophia seems to have been the sister of my Great Great Great Grandmother (Caroline). She also has siblings, Catherine (could be the 'Kate' in the marriage witness you mentioned), Mary, Annie, Rosina, Victoria and brothers Joseph, John and William.

Sophia's parents were Joseph Michael Vogt & Caroline Angelina Auer (1823-1906) (both emigrated from Stuttgart Germany in 1948. Joseph's parents were Peter Anton Vogt and Caroline Auer (b. unknown, d. 1860).

I hope this is some assistance! Feel free to contact me on * if you want to discuss in more detail (or have discovered more info about this lineage!)

Hi amesie1 my Great Great Grandmother was Caroline Cecilia Vogt, daughter of Jeseph and Caroline Vogt.
I am wondering if you have any information on her husband Michael Joseph Collins ? I can't even find what ship he immigrated on.
Cheers and thanks for any help.
Jen
