From a tree on fmp

James Spear born 11 March 1804 Norfolk Island NSW. No parents given and no source for the date and place

Margaret Kennedy Taylor
born 1809 Sydney
died 19 August 1851 Sydney. Again no parents or source given.

Another tree gives his parents as William Spears 1772 Somerset - 1833 Sydney and Mary Howe 1780 Ireland - 1829 Sydney.

Thanks emeltee.

I'll check the NSW index.

No baptism found for James or Margaret.

I now have her burial which I can look up at the library one day. It might give the ship she arrived on. It will confirm 19 Aug as date of death or burial. Most of the church 'V' burial records only provide the date of burial.

NSW Burial V18516 37B/1851 SPEARS MARGARET AGE 41 - MF= CofE Sydney, St Lawrence's

There are four CofE parishes in the centre of Sydney and Christ Church St Laurence in the Parish of St Lawrence was the only 'High Church' one.

This one is a little bit odd in that Rev W. H. Walsh was the head of Christ Church St Laurence.

This one is normal in that St. Philip's was the first Parish in Sydney. William Cowper was not the first Chaplain but was rector of St. Philip's for 49 years.

I don't have a copy of that one yet so I'll look it up next time at the library.

Were William and Mary both convicts ??

Thanks emeltee.

I'll look for a death. Not as Galton or Gatton in NSW index. And this would seem to be too late.
