There are two possibles for Mary, but both have middle names. One a Mary Aitken Stewart and one a Mary H in Fife and Govan. Does yours ever show a middle initial?

The Adam who married Mary W enlisted in the Australian Army on 31 Aug 1914 and gave pob as Gifford and age as 32 3/12, a motor mechanic.

Death 31618/1943 ARNOTT ADAM - JAMES - MARY - WOLLONGONG ** 16 Oct

Age 63 so age at enlistment or age at death is out.

So if it is 1 May 1880 he has changed the year and the month.

Do we have 1x or 2x Adam?

This is getting strange. He enlisted at Brisbane.

Re previous service - he said he didn't 'serve' but was a Purchase - 1st Gloucester Regiment.

Discharged in Sydney on 16 Jun 1919.

Several pieces Geoff. I would say this is accurate.

UK, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960
Name: Mr Adam Arnott
Gender: Male
Age: 30
Departure Date: 6 Jul 1910
Port of Departure: London, England
Destination Port: Sydney, Australia
Ship Name: Miltiades
Shipping Line: Aberdeen Line
Official Number: 118179
Master: A Douglas
Original shows:
[Adam, labourer, aged 30]
[Mary, aged 34]

1876 STEWART MARY WILHELMINA F DUNFERMLINE BURGH /FIFE 424/01 0338

Mary 4 years older fits. Age at death for Adam fits 63 in 1943. He was in the Australia Army 1914 to 1919.

1930 NSW Electoral Roll - Martin - Drummoyne
ARNOTT Adam, 51A Alexandra street, labourer
ARNOTT Mary Wilhelmina, 51A Alexandra street, home duties

We have to sort out the UK service record and the Chelsea Pensioner one. Some of that points to 1880 and some to 1882.

Is the Adam aged 8 in 1891 with parents and are they James & Mary?

Dave

1881
Reg Number: 707

Address: Quarryford
[James Arnott]
James Anott Head 24 Groom & Gardener Gladsmuir Haddingtonshire

Parents on that census fit the death reg in NSW.

That has to be the older one.
