Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. It looks as though Jane was known by her middle name 'Annie'.

They had one daughter, Alpha E. There are two marriage reg but it looks as though the correct name is Cyril Norman KAYE - 1929 Katoomba. He died in 1975 but I can't find a 2nd marriage or a death reg for Alpha.

Please see if you can find them in PO Dir and ER - thanks.

I don't think there is another George Thomas STOWE so it looks as though he remarried in 1937.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

Alpha & Cyril listed twice in 1930.

1930 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Warringah – Mosman
KAYE Alpha Enid, 11 Bond st, house duties
KAYE Cyril Norman, 11 Bond st, salesman

1930 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Macquarie – Katoomba
KAYE Alpha Enid, 18 Katoomba st, Katoomba, house duties
KAYE Cyril Norman, 18 Katoomba st, Katoomba, draper

1936 Victoria Electoral Roll – Henty – Brighton
KAYE Alpha Enid, 44 Roslyn st, house duties
KAYE Cyril Norman, 44 Roslyn st, inspector

I think the reason for two marriages is his surname might have been KETTLEBAND-KAYE.

I found a Edward Charles KETTLEBAND-KAYE in the NSW E/R Mosman.

Couldn't find her death.

I'd like an ER look up please for Alfred Owen STOWE b. 1863 England d. 1956 St Leonards.

He married Emily Jane BARRACLOUGH in 1891 in Woollahra. She died in Chatswood in 1947. They had two sons.

Thanks.

Hello crankypants,

Ah, thank you. That would explain the two reg. Yes, no sign in Ryerson either for Alpha. Oh, I wonder if Alpha died in Victoria after the close of the index?? Branches of related families lived in Victoria.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much.

The other son is Harry Alfred STOWE b. 1892 Narrandera. He married Ethel Mary GUTHRIE in 1920 in Drummoyne. Harry died in 1977 in Frenchs Forest and Ethel died in 1962 in Chatswood.

I have nothing on him apart from his birth and death and marriage.

Please see what you can find.

Thanks.

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. The street near Anglo St is View St and St Paul's Church is on the corner of View St and Fullers Rd. My father recalls Alfred STOWE being on the roof of the church when he was 90 years old fixing a leak.

I have even less info on the STOWE daughters and their spouse so I hope some gaps can be filled.

Priscilla Maud STOWE b. 1871 England d. ?

married 1913 Sydney

John W HAYES b. ? d. ?

I can see a Priscilla May but not a Priscilla Maud HAYES in the ER.
---------------
Emma Mary STOWE b. 1869 Ireland d. 1943 Katoomba

married 1897 Balmain North

John WALL b. ? d. ?

Please see what you can find in Sands Directory and ER.

Thanks.

Dave

Hi Dave

Not really sure what's happening with Priscilla.
As you said you could only see Priscilla May HAYES, this is her listed)
I also found a Maud Priscilla STOWE in 1930 Neutral Bay.

1930 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Reid – Granville
HAYES Priscilla May, Guildford road, Guildford fruiterer

1936 N.S.W Electoral Roll – West Sydney – Glebe
HAYES Priscilla May, 39 Lodge street, home duties

(John W HAYES not present)

1930 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Warringah – Neutral Bay
STOWE Maud Priscilla, 31 Bannerman street, hairdresser
(nothing in 1936)
____________________________________________

No Emma Mary WALL in 1930. Why?? Two for 1936.

1936 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Darling – Wentworth
WALL Emma Mary, Dareton, home duties

1936 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Parkes – Marrickville West
WALL Alexander Charles, 829 New Canterbury road, no occupation
WALL Clifford John, 829 New Canterbury road, printer
WALL Clifford Wallace Blower, 829 New Canterbury road, no occupation
WALL Emma Mary, 829 New Canterbury road, home duties
WALL Laurence Australia, 829 New C’bury road, Hurl. Park, welder
WALL Wallace Willis Giles, 829 New Canterbury road, painter

Hello crankypants,

Thanks - a bit of a puzzle. She did marry according to this reg:
4424/1913 HAYES JOHN W STOWE PRISCILLA M SYDNEY

and died:
18980/1934 STOWE MAUDE P THOMAS EMMA CHATSWOOD

Birth Registration Index - England
Name: Priscilla Maud Stowe
Year of Registration: 1871
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Registration District: Chelsea (1841-1981)
County: Greater London, London, Middlesex
Volume: 1a
Page: 245
==========
2756/1897 WALL JOHN STOWE EMMA M BALMAIN NORTH

19304/1943 WALL EMMA MARY THOMAS EMMA KATOOMBA

I don't know what to think - I doubt it's Canterbury or Wentworth.

Hi Dave

Yes I noticed the death for Priscilla under her maiden name, I did check the NSW Divorce archives but no record. There is a death for a John W HAYES in 1925, would she have reverted back to her maiden name?

I rechecked Emma Mary WALL in the other states but nothing. One Emma WALL living in bankstown, no John WALL.

Well these two haven't made life easy, NOT.

Hello crankypants,

Possibly if they divorced. And if they did John could have died any time after 1913. I dunno.

There is one more sister:

Annie Elizabeth b. 1865 Ireland d. 1940 Parramatta

Married 1884 Parramatta

Elijah John MURRAY b. ? d. 1950 Parramatta

They should be easy to find in ER.

So far I can't find where Elijah was born.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

1903 N.S.W Electoral Roll - Parramatta

MURRAY Elijah John Phillip street, bricklayer
MURRAY Annie Elizabeth Phillip street, home duties

Elijah is on his own in 1930/36.

1930 & 1936 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Parramatta – Parramatta
MURRAY Elijah John 60 Phillip street, Parramatta, bricklayer

There are five Annie Elizabeth MURRAY in 1930, the closest match going by division would be Artarmon.

1930
MURRAY Annie Elizabeth, 573 Lane Cove road, home duties

1936 E/R I'm not sure, four matches in Scone, Summerville, Redfern, Auburn.

Hello crankypants,

Thank you. A bit curious. The Artarmon one would certainly fit with lots of other STOWE family members living in Artarmon & Chatswood but then I would have expected to see her death reg in Chatswood not Parramatta:

5306/1940 MURRAY ANNIE ELIZABETH THOMAS EMMA PARRAMATTA

so I'm not sure.

Moving on to a brother:

Francis Ernest STOWE b. 1867 Ireland d. 1936

13785/1936 STOWE FRANCIS ERNEST THOMAS EMMA SEWELL ASHFIELD

Please see what you can find.

Thanks.

Hi Dave

If you Google "Francis Ernest Stowe" you will find some interesting events in his career.

STOWE Francis Ernest, George street, architect

1930 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Wentworth – Clovelly
STOWE Francis Ernest, Yanko, Yanko avenue, architect

Hello crankypants,

Thanks for telling me to 'Google' because I had no idea Francis Ernest had submitted a design for the harbour crossing. My father knew of the design but didn't remember it was by someone related by marriage.

He married Margaret LYON but I'm not sure if this is her death or not:

9718/1937 STOWE MARGARET JOHN LAMB ELIZABETH MOSMAN

because Francis died in Ashfield in 1936.

A bit curious because you will find Margaret in ER for Division of Warringah with daughter Bessie so Mosman must be correct.

It looks as though we have three different STOWE family members who divorced or separated or whatever...

They had three daughters: Winifred L, Bessie P and Frances E.

Please see what years you can find Margaret and daughters in the Electoral Rolls.

Thanks.

Dave
