Can anyone find out why Edward Sigley was in Strangeways in 1880? I came across the info on familysearch. He was born circa 1833 to Edward and Ann Sigley of Ashton under Lyne and he married a Betsy circa 1851 but I can't find either his marriage or that of his parents. Any help would be welcome

There's one for a Thomas Sigley in 1861, Lancashire... I couldn't see anything else, though Edward's crime in 1880 was probably minor, being a debtor's case..

A tree has spouse as Betty HIBBERT but no marriage date.

I can't find that marriage.

Parents said to be Edward SIGLEY & Ann CORDINGLY 1817 Lancs.

I can't find that marriage either.

Looks like reg for first son:

Births Mar Qtr 1852
SIGLEY Walter - Ashton 8d 387

Manchester, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1930 (on Anc.)

It's also on the IGI.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the link. After you mentioned the IGI I specifically looked there and found the entries. I'm surprised that they didn't appear when I used familysearch.

Hello Emeltee,

I looked in FS and didn't see them. Three are not extracted records therefore not included but user submitted. Some user submitted records are reliable but how do you tell?
