Hi
Looking for my childrens dad's line in WA - Grandfather was Valdamar Lance Strother, born Coolgardie 1898? and died Queens Park 1980 - married Dorothy May ?? (mother in law cannot remember her maiden name)
I have census record from 1936, only Val and Dorothy on there though, quite different from the UK ones. Cannot find a marriage nor births of children. They had a son Victor (died young of stomach cancer), Walter Albert born 18/2/1937 and died 7/4/1987 (my father in law), Ruby (illegitimate child of Val- not Dorothy's but she brought her up as her own), Pearl, Margaret, Maureen and Johnny. Not sure on dates of kid's births. Pearl married Bill Stevens and lived in Maddington, one of the other girls married a Kowalski and lived in Gosnells, they had a deli. Ruby married Frank Dyjak and ran a chicken farm in Orange Grove. I was told from Walter that the name originated in Germany as "Struther" but was changed here. He told me he was 5th generation aussie.
Family came to Perth from Kalgoorlie late 1930's or early 40's and lived in Queens Park.
Oz records are not as easy to access - I have gone to family site with Govt but you cannot access online, need to go to Alexander library. Really sucks because other states seem to have access.
Any help on where to look would be really appreciated as I cannot go any further.
Thanks heaps

Hi Karen

Happy to help if I can.
As you can see you do have access to W.A BDM online. :)
Unfortunately the STROTHER births don't list the parents names but I'm sure most of these births would be theirs as they are all registered in Boulder.

How lucky are you in W.A, unlike S.A we do not have any BDM online nor any Electoral Rolls online nor anything like the reverse marriages online. Scratching my head what we do have. "that's my gripe for today".

cheers

Hi crankypants
Thanks once again. I tried the two links you gave me - tried for access to the births you can see but the links are exactly the same and only take me to the reverse marriage lookup? I tried googling but cannot find any Strother births on the site I searched. How did you find them? When I tried typing in the toolbar for www.openwindows.com/births/search or even/bdm it took me to pages regarding windows as in the operating system windows?
Cheers
Karen:)

Hi Karen

Sorry try this link. Go down page to "Select the information you would like to search for" the select icon gives you options for BDM.

Hi, I am a decendant of Henry Strother who arrived in South Australia with his brother William in 1848 abroad the "Alfred" from Hamburg. Henry was aged about 23 and William was a year younger. I have been unsuccessful with having any positive feedback with this line of my research through other research methods on the net.

I have posted an enquiry on the message board earlier today in the hope someone, somewhere will contact me.

Henry's son William moved with his family (including my Grandmother Dorothy Pearl born 1898 in South Australia) to Boulder/Kalgoorlie early in the 1900's. I presume that any Strother from this part of WA will be conected to me indirectly. My Father, Dorothy's son John Gilbert Treacher, along with 2 brothers and 1 sister, were made wards of the state in the early 1930's during the Great Depression after thier Father died. Dad knew very little about his family. He died in 1974 aged 41. I have made it my mission to do this for him and I have achieved this on his Fathers side.

I would now like to complete the picture for him and also for myself and my decendants. I have spent many years on my own tree and this is the last branch to complete. I have been given a copy of a hand written tree but I am unable to vouch for the accuracy of it. I would like to have someone either confirm or eliminate the informationI have been given.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Julie

Mumjulie, Hi
To send a private message to Karen by which you can exchange e mail addresses, you also have to have made 3 posts. Just reply to Karen and perhaps say hello to a new member and you will have made the 3 posts required. Shortly after making your third post the system will allow you to send PM's
Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi Karen

Thanks for getting back to me. I look forward to exchanging further info with you shortly. I spent some time last night checking my records against burials on the MCB site to confirm a few dates. The sad thing is my Father had cousins living close to were we lived before he died. It would be his 79th Birthday today.

Regards

Julie

Thanks for that, I am new to this way of communicating.
Hi Mum,

If you click on the members name you wish to contact, a little window pops up and gives you options.
Just choose one.:) PM or Private Message appears in that little window, so you can pass on messages that you don't wish to be seen. Especially your email address.

Hi Julie
I have been looking at my records too - I have a few Strother marriages in the Kalgoorlie Boulder area. My father in law Walter Albert came from Valdamar Lance Strother and Dorothy May Cassells. I have sibling info etc.
I know there are other Strother's living there - the undertaker William Strother is believe it or not no relation I can work out as yet but we may be able to nut it out together.
It will be easier also, as we both live in Perth. I am SOR. I work full time so usually only here at night and weekends.
Cheers

Hi this is my first post on this site and I hope the people that were talking on the Strother family will come back and continue the conversation. A few weeks ago I decided to have a girlfriend of mine trace my husbands family tree for his birthday present and with the size of the family it has become bigger than Ben Hur.
I married into the Strother family and one of Stuart Sydney Strother's offspring. Stuarts father was Frederick William (wife -Edith May) and his father William Edward (wife- Ellen Hill). Some of my sisters-in-laws have given me photos of a Valdemar Lance (King) Strother and said that he was their Grandads brother but I can't find any official records of his birth, we found his marriage to Dorothy and I am sending for that certificate tomorrow. If someone can contact me and put me on the straight and narrow I would be very grateful.
I also have photos of a Jack Francis and Erna Strother and was told that Jack was Stuarts brother and Erna his sister-in-law but don't see any Strother's born to that family after Stuart. I know Edith May had another partner after Fredrick William Percy Strother died. The family thought she married a Frank Stevens (but we can't find a marriage cert for that union) and I know she had at least 3 more children with him. One dying in a shooting accident when he was 10. (He was born 5 years after Stuart). So if anyone knows where Jack and Erna come into all of this I would love to know.
So please Karen reply we also live in Perth WA.......
