The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954) Mon 1 Nov 1926
SMALL,.-October 31. 1926, at her daughter's resi-
dence, 290 Beamish-street, Campsie, Susan Elizabeth
Small, dearly loved-mother of May Matthews, of
Campsie, Mrs. Drummond, of Cessnock, George and
Percy Hillier, of Muswellbrook, aged 75 years.

Think I've solved the puzzle.

Susan had a daughter under her maiden name and she married a DRUMMOND, so Mary Gladys must be the granddaughter of Susan SMALL.

Birth
17704/1875 THOMPSON Mary Ann Susan Susan Elizabeth Paterson

1st Marriage
6842/1893 FARR THOMAS SHEPHARD MARY A T TAMWORTH

2nd Marriage
5036/1933 DRUMMOND MICHAEL FARR MARY A SYDNEY

Death4923/1942 DRUMMOND MARY ANN WILLIAM SUSAN ELIZABETH CESSNOCK

Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate (NSW : 1876 - 1954) Thu 6 Oct 1927
Mary Gladys Drummond, shop assistant

The Maitland Daily Mercury (NSW : 1894 - 1939) Wed 5 Oct 1927
Mary Gladys Ivy Drummond; residing at Catherine Street Cessnook

I can't find Mary Gladys born c1907 to mother Mary Ann Susan.

Thanks Rupert.

A lot of that would fit.

But Susan died in 1926 and the marriage to Drummond in 1933.

20 Feb 1942 looks to be the right death so another very late marriage.

William born 1881 but marriage was 1886.

Death 571/1908 FARR THOMAS EDWARD CHARLOTTE BALMAIN NORTH ?

Only a Funeral notice and no names.

Can't see a notice for 20 Feb 1942 death.

But that looks to be the Mary THOMPSON.

Birth 17704/1875 THOMPSON MARY ANN L - - SUSAN E - PATERSON

The initial L being an error for S.

1st Marriage
6842/1893 FARR THOMAS SHEPHARD MARY A T TAMWORTH

Another error with initial T?

Why would Mary call herself a SHEPHARD ?? Susan married in 1886 to HELLIER and then to SMALL.

If Mary was calling herself Drummond in 1926 so why marriage 1933 if Thomas died in 1908?

Thanks Geoff.

Catherine Hill Bay is between Sydney and Newcastle.

Can Mary Ann Susan be found in E/R?

It will fit if a few things are ignored.

I'm off for a few hours while it's not raining.

That must be it then Rupert with some strange things along the way.

Mary is using the name Shepherd in 1893. William didn't start using it until sometime between 1906 and 1915.

Mary calls herself Mrs Drummond in 1926 but marriage in 1933.

There are fiche at the State Library for NSW for the following years:
1906, 1908, 1909, 1915, 1916, 1917, 1921, 1922, 1925, 1926, 1928

I'll be there Wednesday to look at a newspaper taken out of storage on request for me.
