Have discovered in the 1881 census, one of my ancestors serving as a soldier corporal in The Barracks, Northgate Canterbury. I believe that The Buffs East Kent regiment were stationed there according to Kelly's directory. So am hopeful that I can now move forward and get his record of his time in the army. Anyone else have someone serving in this regiment?

Thanks for the offer.
The name is Richard Garibaldi Compton & the date of birth is 19th January 1861; it is likely that he added a couple of years to his age to get into the army.
