hi everyone, this is the biggest pain of my family history life so far.....well one of them.My grandmother's brother was killed in ww2,his name was james cook also known as jimmy but when it comes to tracing his career its impossible to find him.All the family know was that he was killed by a mine and thats all.No idea where or when or even what reg he was in.James was born in 1914 in stockton on tees,his parents were thomas and ellen cook.
please help!!!!:confused: :confused:

Was mothers name defineatly Ellen, or could it have been Emma.

lookin at the date of death and his age he would have been 24 not 26 but it is posslibe that it was put down wrong either that or its not my james.only it looks like a really good lead and dont want to give up on it until prooven beyond fact that its not him.

I did go through the CWGC site, perhaps you could look also.

hi p.risboy,i have looked at james's birth record and he did not have any middle names.I have looked many times on CWG and cant seem to find anything that matches with my james.i will keep looking.:mad:

i have emailed CWG to see if they can maybe shed some light on this problem and just been through the list again just to make sure i didnt miss him but no luck,will just have to give it up as a bad job i think:mad:

ur right p.risboy,i have emailed CWG and will see what they have to say.I also looked for y gtgt grandfather on another thread and with the help of everyone on here i was able to find out all about him and found 2 more children i never knew he had so its been good in that way.:D i will just keep pluggin away at james til i find what i'm looking for.thanks for your help.:)

is it possible that they got her name wrong? she was deffo ellen as i have my grandmother's birth cert.
Just as a point my name is actually 'Ellen' after my late grandmother, who was often known as Nellie - this is a common nickname for Ellen.Do you think she could have been listed as Nellie?
