This is connected with my George Blizzard post in the Names section, but thought it more appropriate here?
If a widow got married in 1887 would she have to produce a death certificate for her original husband first?
If her husband went missing, (ie Set up a new life elsewhere and could not be traced by her) how long would it be before he could be presumed dead?
