Reading a newspaper in "Findmypast" the Preston Chronical 16/06/1848.
Charles Chubb, the registrar for Great Howard street, sub district of Liverpool,
was arrested for obtaining commission under false pretences from the parish officers.
He was adding false names in the birth books to gain more money.
If this practice was widespread around the country, it is somthing else to think about when checking names out.
