The whereabouts of my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather

I am trying to trace a marriage certificate for my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather George Robinson and a Mary Freeman, I have no idea when they would have married or indeed if they ever did.

Mary lived in Haggerstone West according to the the 1851 Census.
George shows up as a visitor in the same area and is stated as being born in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire no birth date given.

George and Mary are shown as the parents of George William Robinson, born in Haggerstone East on 26th December 1852, registered March 1853.

It would be great to have a marriage certificate that would probably lead me to trace members of my family further back.....can anyone help me please?????

Have you found the Robinson family on the 1861 census at all?

I have had a look myself and could not find anything. If they did marry it is likely they wed inbetween 1851 and late 1852 but they may have wed a lot later.

In London it was so easy to cover up things like not being married as the city had so many people. A few Londoners pretended to be married when they were not.

I now remember that fragments of the 1861 census have gone missing and some for London unfortunately. Around 5 to 10% of the entire 1861 census is missing. This accounts for around 1 million people.

Its OK as some of my London ancestors are missing as the census returns for the street they lived down is missing.

Dont know if you have the 1871 census but it looks like Mary Ann with parents and siblings. She is down as Mary Ann Freeman dau age 36 widow.

did they stay in London? I have looked for them in 1861 but where, would it be London? Middlesex? I am not sure as the boundaries seemed to change over the years. Could they have moved to Cheshunt?
