One article says he was 42 years old and another says 46

Chronicle (Adelaide, SA : 1895 - 1954)(about)
Saturday 19 February 1898

FALSE PRETENCES. Theodore Niquet (42) pleaded guilty to a charge of obtaining by false pretences an order for the payment of £1 at Adelaide on February 3, 1897. Prisoner, who for years. had been a painter at Angaston, signed his own name to the order. The Crown Solicitor said he understood that the- accused had been drinking. His Honor thought that possibly the accused was non compos mentis. The Crown Solicitor said the point had nob been raised, but if necessary the medical officers of the gaol could examine the accused. His Honor said that could be done after sentence. In passing sentence he said there were circumstances connected with the case which made it difficult for him to deal with it, and in as much as there were .no records against the defendant he would not impose the full sentence allowed by the law. He could not think what led the defendant to act as he had done. The commerce of the colony was, how ever, mostly carried on by cheque and it must be protected. Sentenced to the Adelaide Gaol for 12 months with hard labor :eek:

Thats what im thinking as its the last time he is mentioned in articles. You think its your fella?

Maybe i have the wrong fella :confused: In the article that fella was a painter and then in this article he is a painter but going on about the late mrs Niquet. Wonder if he is referring to a wife or his mother. If his referring to a wife i have the wrong fella.

South Australian Register (Adelaide, SA : 1839 - 1900)(about)
Friday 29 March 1895

At an adjourned meeting of the creditors of Mr. T. A. Niquet, of Mount) Gambler, painter, Mr. Niquet agreed to as«;j»n his interest in the will of the late Mrs. Niquet for the benefit of his creditors, and io waa accepted etc etc

Found this so he could be referring to his mother's will and not a wife.The could have still been in the process of sorting his mother's will out maybe.

See what you think of this :confused:

The Register (Adelaide, SA : 1901 - 1929)(about)
Thursday 2 April 1903

The Rev. John Peter Niquet, one of the oldest Lutheran ministers in Australia, who had lived at Mount Gambier for tlie last rune years with his son-in-law, the Rev. F. W. Matschoss, died on Monday night at the age of 91 years. During nearly the whole of his long life the deceased enjoyed a re markable measure of health, but about a year ago he was stricken with paralysis; which greatly weakened him, and a recur rence of the seizure a few.»days ago caused his death. Pastor Naquet was bom in Ber lin, Prussia, in December, 1811. He was descended from an old French family of
noble extraction, who, having becomo Huguenots, fled from their country at the revocation of the tklicb of Nantes. One branch of the family sought refuge in Ger many and the other in America. The de ceased was educated in a Berlin theolotfical college under tlie late Dr. Gosner. In 1837, when 2C years of age, he was sent out to Queensland with five others as pioneer mis sionaries to the aborigines of that colony, and for IS years was engaged in that work. During that 18 yeais he got married. In 1855 he went to Ballarat, and for nine years was pastor of a Lutheran Church there. Then he settled (1864) in charge of the Lutheran Church at Light's Pass, near Angaston, South Australia, where he laboured for 23 years, and was much beloved of the people. For two years or so he had charge of the Pirie Street Lutheran Church, Adelaide. A little over nine years ago his wife died, and as he had then spent nearly 60 years in church sen-ice and his family were dispersed,- he retired and went to Mount Gambier, where he resided with his son-in-law. Three sons and six daughters survive him. The- sons are Messrs. C. AV. Niquet, of Middle Park, Melbourne; Alexander T. Niouet, of the United States of America ; and P. H. Niquet, of Mount Gam bier. The daughters are !Mrs. S. Olden, of Pallarat; Mrs. A. E. Roberts, of YorRe's Peninsula; Mrs. M. J. Reusch, of Tanunda; Mrs. E. W. Wishart, of Angaston; Mrs. Braun, wife of the Rev. Pastor Braun, of Hahndorf; and Mrs. F. W. Matschoss, of Mount Gnmbier. He lias left also nearly GO grandchildren and many greatgrandchild ren,

Thanks gibbo. :)

Must be him.

I'll check all the children listed.

CAW = Charles Alexander Wesley

PH = Peter Henry

William and James died young.

Yes, 6 daughters survived him.

Interesting stuff - HERE

Births
8052/1860 ALLEN MARY A - WILLIAM - CATHERINE - LIVERPOOL **
10886/1860 ALLEN MARY A - DANIEL - ANNE - PATRICKS PLAINS

The author thinks it's this one ** but I think it's wrong. Mary's middle initial is J not A.

My grandfather's probate took about 25 years but that's crazy.

Is that St Peters SA or NSW?

The version of Edith's marriage I had didn't have Book and page.

The versions on the fiche at the library and CD, that some have access to, are very different.

Can't find the death for Fredrich to match that Ryerson index entry.

Some burials but they may be hard to find.

I can't see Theo/Alexander's death in America. Someone might be able to find when he arrived there, maybe even find him in a census.
