AYLING, Nathaniel M 8 1833 Surrey
AYLING, Emma F 6 1835 Surrey
AYLING, Abigail F 4 1837 Surrey
Thomas arrived in Australia before 1850. ???

Charlotte HARKINS b. abt 1829 ?? - father = James and mother = ?

Charlotte arrived in Australia before 1850. ???

I've had no luck finding a birth/baptism for Charlotte or the name of her mother or her parents marriage or finding the family in 1841. It's possible there is a death for James in NSW.

There seems to be no doubt about the name. Harkins is a middle name for several of their children. All the hits come up Hawkins.

Regards,

Dave

I've not found out yet if one of these might be Charlotte's father:

Deaths
8530/1893 HARKINS JAMES UNKNOWN UNKNOWN LIVERPOOL
13529/1896 HARKINS JAMES UNKNOWN UNKNOWN GOULBURN

I think John and Thomas are the only two to make it to Australia. Not sure of the brother in NZ. The only other one I can see is Nathaniel so is he the one in NZ? YES. Headstone in NZ:

I have no death for Thomas. All I had was 'after 1864' but that notice implies he is still alive as of 25 Feb 1895.

Thanks.

One problem is that there is another AYLING family in Australia and I don't know if or how they are connected. Some of them ended up in Rockhampton.

Ok we know that the Rev. married a Mary Ann Dalton re the passenger list.

Marriages Mar 1847
AYLING John Wandsworth 4 433
Dalton Mary Ann Wandsworth 4 433

I tried finding the marriage in familysearch hoping it might have his father's name noted and then we could use that to help with Thomas since they were brothers... cant find the marriage in FS tho

Yes, that's all.

The name does appear once in records in NSW as HARKNESS but many more times in middle names as Harkins.

Ok i found this, clutching at straws here now :2fun::2fun:

The daughter Charlotte on the passenger list is 15 so born around 1824.

I found a marriage for Jesse Hawkins [Jessie on the passenger list]

V1852170 85/1852 HAWKINS JESSE HARMAN MARY A IK

Didnt you have a family named Harman in amongst your lot? Or am i having a wally

No, no Harman. There is HAMMOND.

Re the two deaths for James. I found nothing in TROVE.

Plenty of HARKINS in NSW such as this one:

HARKINS Ann Death notice 31OCT1888 Death 61 late of Camperdown Sydney Morning Herald 03NOV1888

Too many to be descendants of one couple. Several born Scotland.

And this marriage:

V1849635 34C/1849 SMITH SPENCER - HAWKINS CHARLOTTE MA

It's on the list but I've been doing the CofE ones first because they are a bit easier than the Presbyterian.

I'll look for it next week when I go.
