Hello,

Thomas BLACKLEY born abt 1854 Liverpool, Lancashire is my great grandfather.

1861
Civil parish Liverpool
RD Liverpool
Sub RD St. Martin
94 New Hedley Street
Thomas Blackley head age 30 occ Iron moulder born Ireland
Janet wife age 30 born Scotland
John son age 8 born Scotland
Thomas son age 6 born Liverpool
William son age 4 born Liverpool
Isabella dau age 2 born Liverpool
Archibald son age 11wks born Liverpool
1871
Civil parish Kirkdale
RD West Derby
Sub RD Toxteth Park
67, Westminster Road
Thomas Blackley lodger wid age 38 occ Iron moulder born Scotland ? [Ireland]
Thomas Blackley lodger age 16 occ railway clerk born Liverpool
William Blackley age 15 occ shop errand boy born Liverpool
Archibald Blackley age 12 born Liverpool

Archibald was born in 94 Hedley Street Liverpool.

Births Mar 1854
Blekley Thomas W Derby 8b 357

That is the closest I can find For Thomas. I'd like a look up please for Thomas in some place other than FreeBMD to see if there is any other possible birth and if the one I have found has the name as 'Blekley' - It's probably worth getting before the fee goes up. Thanks.

Regards,

Dave

I have checked the Births Index from 1853 to 1857 and cannot find a birth entry for a Thomas Blackley, although I must say that half the page for 1856 is virtually unreadable. I have also looked on the Lancs OPC site but nothing there either. Sorry.

Hi Dave,
Do his siblings in the 1861 census, come up as Blackley or Blekley in the births for Liverpool/West Derby.

Personally, I would go for the one you've found. At least it will be a 'cheap' right or wrong cert.

Steve.:)

Hello Steve,

Thanks for looking. Yes, well, I'm not 100% sure about all of the children. Thomas is the only one who went to Australia.

This might be William:

Births Mar 1856
BRAKELEY William Liverpool 8b 7

This would probably be Isabella:

Births Sep 1859
Blackley Isabella Liverpool 8b 50

Just received this one and it is the right one:

Births Mar 1861
BLACKLEY Archibald Liverpool 8b 29

RD Liverpool - Sub-district St Martin - County Lancaster
#263 Twenty Seventh January 1861 94 Hedley Street - Archibald - Boy - Thomas Blackley - Janet Blackley formerly Neil - Iron Moulder - Janet Blackley mother 94 Hedley Street Liverpool - Twentieth February 1861 - John Simpson Deputy Registrar

This could be Jessie:

Births Mar 1862
BLAKELEY Jessie Liverpool 8b 79

------
1881 Scotland
Civil parish Paisley High Church
23, Broomlands Street
Catherine McNaugton head age 60 occ dressmaker born Ireland
Isabella Blackley mother age 78 born Ireland
Mary Blackley sister dau age 48 occ mill worker born Ireland
Thomas Blackley nephew age 26 occ coal merchant born England
Archibald Brackley nephew age 20 occ servant general born england
Jessie Brackley niece age 19 occ millworker born England

So it's possible we have four spellings. Since Thomas is my great grandfather. :D I've decided to order that one at the current fee.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Steve,

Thanks. Thomas was the 2nd born, but the first born in England so I'm not sure even if his birth was registered. Their parents married in 1852 in Paisley and John (named after his father's father) was born there according to the census although so far I can't find his birth.

Regards,

Dave

Hello,

I have just received the birth certificate and I can say 100% it's not my great grandfather. :(

Hello Steve,

The two census listings clearly say Liverpool where some siblings were definitely born but there is no sign of any other possible reg for Thomas born abt 1854.

I'm stuck with his father, also Thomas. All I have from certificates and census listings is born Ireland abt 1831, iron moulder.

And I'm stuck with his father, John too. No birth, no marriage, no death, no census listing, just a few details from death certificate of a daughter - born Ireland, master mason.

A real dead end. :(

Regards,

Dave

Hello Steve,

Yes, I guess we all have at least one brick wall. I've made a lot of progress in three years with more and more stuff now on-line and help from forums such as this one. :)

Regards,

Dave
