Hello,

1901 UK Census
Name: Thomas Blackley
Age: 74
Estimated birth year: abt 1827
Relation: Head
Spouse's name: Ann
Gender: Male
Where born: Scotland ? [Ireland]
Civil parish: Barrow in Furness
Ecclesiastical parish: Hawcote and New Barns
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England
Registration district: Barrow in Furness
Sub-registration district: Barrow in Furness
ED, institution, or vessel: 31
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 169
Household Members: Name Age
Thomas Blackley 74
Ann Blackley 74

Please see if they can be found in 1891. Thomas was an iron moulder and Ann a nurse. I have no death for either of them. Not even sure if Thomas went to Scotland where some of his family lived. Other possibility is that he died in England after 1911. Thanks.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Ozn,

Thanks.

Yes, revisiting this family. Many listings have his birth as Paisley but I doubt that very much. Wish I could find his death. I'd certainly order his death certificate because he is my great great grandfather.

1851
Civil parish Paisley North
5, Love Street
Isabella Blackly head age 48 occ washer woman born Ireland
Thomas son age 21 occ iron moulder born Ireland
Mary dau age 19 occ warehouse sewster? born Ireland
Isabella dau age 17 occ shread twiner born Ireland
Sarrah dau age 15 occ weavers asst born Ireland
Cathren dau age 13 occ house servant born Ireland

Isabella's spouse was John BLACKLEY born Ireland 1800 probably earlier d. abt 1845 ?? The family has not been found in Scotland in 1841 so possibly they arrived in Paisley after 1841. The youngest Ann was the only one I think born in Scotland - Paisley about 1846 but birth/baptism not found yet.

Regards,

Dave

Hello,

I have no doubt that's him in the 1901 census - correct spelling as well considering all the variations I've seen with registrations of the children.

Where and when did he die?

When and where did his 2nd spouse Ann b. abt 1827 Northwich, Cheshire die?

Marriages Jun 1875
BLAKELEY Thomas Manchester 8d 264
SMITH Ann Manchester 8d 264

25 Apr 1875 Cathedral Manchester

I searched the index using variations of name and marriage date 1875 +/- 1 with and without Cheshire as birth place and found nothing. Perhaps that means Ann died between 1901 and 1911. ???

Regards,

Dave

Hello Ozn,

Yes, thanks. I have Thomas senior in census listings 1851-1901. None of the family have been found in 1841 and that suggests they arrived in Paisley from Ireland between 1841 and 1846.

Thomas senior is with 3 sons in 1871:

Thomas age 16 railway clerk born Liverpool
William age 15 shop errand boy born Liverpool
Archibald age 12 born Liverpool

Here is Archibald's birth:

Births Mar 1861
BLACKLEY Archibald Liverpool 8b 29

RD Liverpool - Sub-district St Martin - County Lancaster
#263 Twenty Seventh January 1861 94 Hedley Street - Archibald - Boy - Thomas Blackley - Janet Blackley formerly Neil - Iron Moulder - Janet Blackley mother 94 Hedley Street Liverpool - Twentieth February 1861 - John Simpson Deputy Registrar

So far William's birth has not been found. He has not been found in later census listings. No death in England or Scotland has yet been found. There is no trace of him travelling to Australia.

Thomas junior is my line and he died in Queensland. I have not found his birth yet.

Regards,

Dave
