Hi, Please can somebody come up with the answer to this one!! I have my grandfather, Fred Brookes' marriage cert and the birth cert for him and his sister, so I am certain that his father's name was Thomas and his mother's name was Frances Kinder. They show up in 1901 census in Warrington Lancs but the census state that Thomas was born in Tattersall, Lincoln and his "wife" Fanny Broadhurst was born in Birmingham. All the children are correct (Ernest, Fed, Millie & Elsie) Frances Kinder was born in Aston Warwicks. Apparently Thomas & Fanny Broadhurst married Mar 1889 in Warrington. Frances Kinder born in Aston, Warwicks in 1861 appears in 1871 census aged 10 and the 1881 census married to Thomas Hilton with another two children (but no Ernest). I think (I am sooooo confused with this!) that I'm looking for a marriage for Frances Kinder either to ?? Broadhurst or alternatively parents for Fanny Broadhurst and quite how the 3 names tie up. If you need any more info I may have it in my reams of paper but I think this is the basics. Thanks for any help. Gilllisa:rolleyes:

Ernest could have been at school, visiting or working elsewhere at the time of the census.
My Gt.Granny never turned up on any census with her family, always somewhere else. :D

Hi Steve, Yeah that makes sense (except your Gt. Granny was a woman - needing a good gossip!!) It's the lack of any mention of Frances Kinder turning into Fanny Broadhurst which is really niggling me. I need that link before its sensible to go back any further with her.
Many:) thanks for your input - everything gratefully received. Gilllisa

Hi Gilllisa,

I havnt been able to find any connection with Kinder and Broadhurst.
There is a Frances Broadhurst born abt 1865 Birmingham(dau to Charlotte) in 1881. Then theres a marriage for a Frances Mary Broadhurst yr 1887 district Aston. Surnames of grooms listed are Moss and Wright.

Just a thought if there has been a mistake on the GRO indexing!

This Frances Broadhurst (dau) in 1871 is with Charlotte and James Broadhurst but her surname is Poulten.

Cant even find this Frances on the census with her married name!

Hi Steve, Thanks for trying. The Frances Kinder who married Thomas Hilton seems the obvious choice - IF she then went on to marry somebody Broadhurst before getting together with Thomas Brookes - proving it is the obstacle!!:) Perhaps I'd better leave her for a bit longer and concentrate on another part of my expanding tree??:'(
Can you keep my query on your back burner please in case something else pops up cheers Gill
