Thomas Burgess c1844

Hi all.

Thomas Burgess c1844. Born Northwich, Lancs.

I have not found him in 1851/1861, although there are quite a few possible.

All census returns give his POB as this, apart from the 1901, which he gives Witton, Lancs.
I have found a lot of references to Witton, Northwich but no actual village/town.

Father given as Joseph Murry on marriage cert.

I have searched for Joseph Murry marriages with Burgess as spouse, but no luck as yet, but not through want of trying.

Any help please.

I have found a likely birth for Thomas, but there is a double entry for the same year/quarter/page/volume.
I looked at the original image, and ther are 2 entries together. One with page No.186 and another with page No.182

Which one should I order.

Give both references and request a check on fathers name as Joseph. Of course if the fathers are both Joseph you've got a problem!

Just had another thought. What if he was registered without a father named.

There is a Ecclesiastical parish Witton St Helen in the civil parish of Northwich.

On Genuki it is listed here as Witton cum Twambrooks.

Wrong cert, but I got a partial refund as it did not have the right fathers name on it, with the reference check. So no cert was issued to me.

So the search goes on.

I thought Northwich came under Cheshire unless it is on the border?

There were two Thomas Burgess births in the June Qtr 1843 in the Northwich district. Are these the ones that you have checked?

Oooops. Yes Ben. I got that mixed up, as he was in Prestwich, Lancs in 1881, and he was an "Attendant +Plasterer" at the County Lunatic asylum..

In most census he gives his POB as Northwich, Cheshire.
But in 1901 it is Witton, Cheshire which is in the parish of Northwich.

Yes, they are the ones I'm checking out.

On A******y there is a Thomas Burgess son of William Burgess and Ann Hulme born Northwich who wed Mary Ann Graham but then when I click in the parents names disappear and it says Joseph Murry. Is this your tree?? Are William and Ann the incorrect parents.

I have tried under Henry and Murry for Thomas's birth but to no avail. Could he have been born a Murry or Henry though or a surname similar to that and his mum married a Burgess??

That the one Ben. That was the wrong line I was going down.

I deleted William and Ann from my tree.

This may be way off, but have you looked at RG9 2602 F 51 ?????
The family are incorrectly indexed as BURGERS.

Have you tried FindMyPast to see there. They can search by occupation. Maybe you could look for him in 1861. He'd have been about 17 then.

As I said, it may be well off the mark, but it was the 1861 Census that I was referring to. Father John Burgess, Salt Rock Miner. Mother, Margaret. Son, Thomas and daughter Jessie.

Hi all,
The Burgers (Burgess) family are/were the wrong line, thats the mob I had wrong.
I have Thomas in 1861 transcribed as BURZESS b.1844 Northwick(Northwich), in Farnworth and Widnes, Lancashire. He is lodging with John Hardman Occ. Plasterer.
Thomas Burgess ended up a Master Plasterer, in 1901.

No connection (as yet) to the Cromptons Julie.
