Hello crankypants,

 Thanks for looking.

Thomas & Janet and all 6 children arrived in Sydney in 1852. Most ended up in Queensland.

The following places of birth are from privately submited IGI entries so I don't know if they are reliable or not:

Mary b. abt 1836 Hill of Rip, Stirling
Margaret b. abt 1837 Saint Ninians, Stirling
David b. abt 1840 ,, Stirling

Janet b. ?? Bridge of Allan, Stirling

I would have guessed they were either in Stirling or Midlothian in 1841 and in Midlothian in 1851.

Hi Dave

You should be hearing me scream by now across the Aussie/Asia waters:mad:

I checked England 1851 census just in case they were already making there way to a port.
I even checked under Draper and nothing. Was Janet's mother's maiden name also Cairns.

They have to be somewhere:mad:

cheers

Hello crankypants,

I've looked without the family name and birth county Stirling and census country Stirling or Midlothian or anywhere for all of them and can't find anything in 1841.

Hello,

The family name is CAIRNS but it appears in Queensland sometimes as CAIRNES and in shipping records as CARNS and in 1841 as CAIRENS:

1841
Civil pariish St. Ninians
County Sterling
Address Bandeath
Thomas Cairens age 30 occ ag lab
Janet Cairens age 30
Janet Cairens age 9
Mary Cairens age 2
Margaret Cairens age 8mths

The family left on the "William and Mary" which left Plymouth on 5 Sep 1851.
Thomas Carns age 40 farm labourer
Janet age 38
Mary age 16
Margaret age 14
David age 12
John age 9
Catherine age 3

The youngest child Catherine was born in Edinburgh in 1849 but I don't know where the family was at census time in 1851.

Please check again if the family can be found in 1851. I've found nothing yet in FreeCEN.

Thanks.

Dave
