The birth I cannot isolate is for the Thomas Caton, born Preston Lancashire, who had an older brother James, and a younger brother Robert. Mother may have been Elizabeth, father not yet known. Probably years for Thomas's birth would be 1816-1819. Thomas was transported on Bengal Merchant 1837.
Any starters?
Cheers,

I know it hasnt his date of birth but thought it might be of interest as your Thomas Caton is noted on here. Maybe if you contact them they may have further information that may help you.

I find the convicts very interesting. I would love to know how they got on as well. I watched a doco the other night about some convicts who escaped from Fremantle in Western Australia. They escaped in a boat and the cops were right on them, side by side in the boats but they couldnt do anything about bringing them back something about they were out of australian waters by then. The convicts ended up in America and lived their lives out there.

Thanks for giving this man some time, Gibbo and Leefer. Yes he was a rather aggressive type and his TOL not reissued till 1855. Probably one of the last convicts at Tocal homestead, near Maitland. If you want to read more about convicts and their ways, go to www.tocal.com for some interesting reading by a dedicated convict researcher. I have quite a dossier on my man and Thomas Caton's birth family is really hard to determine. There are plenty of T.C's on the IGI also but none that have the siblings I need. Will do more on the jen willett site as time permits.
Cheers and thanks,
Maryc2

I have just this evening watched an Australian television program titled 'Who Do You Think You Are', which may be of interest.
Famous (in Australia) actor, Michael Caton explores his ancestry and dicsovers a Thomas Caton, born in Preston in 1815, a bad lad who is transported to Sydney around 1830.
You can google it all or go to:

You may find the man you seek here.

Thanks Alan for your thoughtfulness in responding to my old posts. You may be surprised to learn that Yours Truly was actually the distant family relative in the programme who did the creek scene and climbed Bald Rock.
I am descended from Mary Ann Riley's first born son William Caton, born Riley.
William was born 7 May 1853 Maitland and by 31 Jan 1854 Mary Ann had married Thomas in Maitland. My great grandfather grew up in the same family as the actor's grandfather. Caton is my main family of interest.
Cheers,
