Hi Dave

The best thing is to find the birth cert of Ellen to get the mothers maiden name which could help in searching for the marriage. At least you will have the maiden name of Thomas Channon born c1835.

Is it just Thomas you are trying to find now, ie his baptism?

Are you trying to find when he arrived in Australia at all?

I shall have a look to see if I can find anything.

Ben

Hello,

I know the mother's maiden name and I have the marriage. I have the arrival of older brother James in Australia. I have the death of Thomas in Australia and I wanted to know when he arrived. That was the question for this topic. I have not been able to find a birth/baptism record. I have other evidence that he did make it to Australia.

Not a direct line so not worth $18 to get a copy of his death certificate to see if it says how many years he spent in the colony.

As far as his sisters go, I'm working through them to see if they might have left England. Looks as though Ellen didn't but am having problems tracing Emmeline.

Regards,

Dave

Dave did he marry in Australia? Just trying to narrow years down a bit.

Thanks Gibbo.

I've not found a marriage or any ref to one. I think he was a gold prospector in the Adelong area at one time. Burwood was a bit of a surprise being a suburb of Sydney.

The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848-1954) - Friday 10 December 1858
SHOULD this meet the eye of HENRY CHANNON, son of James Channon, (vet. surg.), Taunton, Somerset, he is requested to write to his cousin Thomas Channon, Adelong Quartz-reef, Tumut, N.S.W.

Round about. I suppose it's possible he left before 1851 census but he would have been very young and without any family members.
