Hi. I am looking for informations on austrian officer named Thomas Crewe - Preston (Creve Preston), his grave still stands on local cemetery and it would be perfect if we could find more informations on his english family and that would also help us to gain money gor reconstruction of his gravestone, which is not in good shape. He was born 10.2.1816 in London (in his military record is the birth year 1818), died 10.8.1849 in Bazin/Bösing, Austria-Hungary - now Pezinok in Slovakia). In years 1837-1846 officer of austrian imperial Kurassier Regiment Nr.4, he reached the rank of "oberleutenant". Before he joined the army, he was student. Wife Antonia Alojzia Nedeczky (*11.2.1825 Tyrnau/Nagyszombat - now Trnava, Slovakia + 6.5.1850 Pressburg/Pozsony - now Bratislava, Slovakia). Do you think its possible to find his birth record? Thanks!

...his wife was from a local nobile family so I think yes, her family paid it... they had two little daughters (born 1847 and 1848), father died 1849 and mother 1850 so only her family could do that...

It was common for a mothers maiden name to be used as a child's second name. Maybe Crewe was his mother's maiden name..

"Before he joined the army, he was student" .. was 1837 when he joined the army?
And was he a student in Austria or the UK?
Also did he have next of kin on his military papers?
What year did he marry?

Sorry about all the questions just trying to get as much information as possible that may help find more on him in England.

In his military papers was nothing about his family, only that his previous job was "student". Unfortunatly nothing about the school, even not the state :/ he joined the austrian army in may 1836 as cadet (first time mentioned in schematismus in 1837). He quitted in army because of his marriage..

..quitted the army on 15.5.1845, wedding was in April 1846...
Im not sure what information would be on his marriage certificate, do you have a marriage cert. for him? Some contain parents names or the very least a father's name but im not sure if your certificates have that information.

Just doing a global search on FamilySearch using the spelling as below.

No records found for Name: crewe-preston, Country: England

Googling tells me the train fare from Crewe to Preston.

The image looks to have Crewe-Presxton or Crewe-Preszton ??

...Sometimes they used Creve - Preston, sometimes Crewe Preston... The other possibility is that this is not his real name :/ But not anybody could be in that time an officer.. have found he travelled in 1841 to Frankfurt (am Main?).. Maybe there lived someone from his family?

Looking for any informations on austrian officer named Thomas Crewe-Preston (sometimes written as Creve Preston), in 1845 Oberlieutenant of Kurassier Regiment Nr.4. Born 10.2.1816 in London, died 10.8.1849 in Bosing near Pressburg (now Pezinok, Slovak republic). Mentioned in 1837 as Cadet of KR.4, later Unterlieutenant, from 1844 Oberlieutenant. Married to Antonia Edle von Nedeczky (*1825+1850). I found the Grave of them, want to find some informations on them.. Maybe it would help to raise some money for reconstruction of the gravestone.http://gmic.co.uk/topic/61969-thomas-crewe-preston-creve-preston/
