Thanks gibbo. :)

That would fit. That would be Eyre, father of Thomas and of Eyre. Don't know when Eyre junior was born (sometime after 1801 marriage below) or when he died.

If they were only Captains in local Militia we won't find much on them re service records.

Just bits and pieces:

Nobility, Gentry and Clergy section of Pigots (1824) for Castle-Connell
Captain Ayre Powell, World's-end.

Yes, that's the family.

House or Townland of Prospect mentioned in several places in previous posts:

Townland: Prospect
Civil Parish: Stradbally
Poor Law Union: Limerick

Hi there! Sorry to revive an old forum, but I've only just opened an account on this website so I'm unable to privately message either of you.

Just wanted to thank you for all this information - you've both been immensely helpful years later! I too am a descendent of Thomas Eyre Powell, so this is fantastic. I just wondered Dave (should you happen to stumble across this again) if you might be able to provide the source of that information you opened this thread with? Seems to be a death certificate, would love to be pointed in the right direction there.

Thank you! :)

Hello Jarrod and welcome to the Forum.

It is a transcription of this death certificate, ie a copy from an authorised transcription agent who has access to the BDM records and not a certified copy from the registry.

Death 10852/1908 POWELL WILLIAM H - THOMAS E - ELIZABETH - PARRAMATTA * 15 Jul

I'm not a descendant. This marriage is to a sibling of my direct Sands line not Powell line. I follow siblings as well so I have a very large tree.

Marriage 3/1860 POWELL WILLIAM HENRY - SANDS ELIZABETH CELTY - SYDNEY * 2 Jan

If you have any specific queries then post them on the appropriate board and we will try to help.

Great, thank you for that - good to know!

No specific queries at this stage since I'm very new to the Powell line, but just out of curiousity, did you ever manage to get higher up the chain than Eyre Powell (Thomas's father), or did the records get a bit slim / was the line too removed for you to do further research?

If you google 'eyre powell' and 'limerick' you will find quite a lot.

Nobility, Gentry and Clergy section of Pigots (1824) for Castle-Connell
Captain Ayre Powell, World's-end

The problem is making the right connections.

Hi Dave,

Have you encountered the publications of a genealogist named John Burke? He's got a number of volumes written in the early-mid 1800s that concern the lineage of noble families of the UK.

I've spent the last couple weeks trawling through those records alone and creating a visual representation of what his understanding of the lineage is, you can take a look here: https://tinyurl.com/v67tvqc

For me this is very groundbreaking! You're right, normally researching before the 1800s is near impossible for UK lines, but this has been huge for breaking that wall.

Would be interested on your thoughts and happy to point you to the exact sources if you wish.

Cheers,
Jarrod

Hi Jarrod,

Yes, Ireland a bit easier if some are of 'noble' birth.

Thanks. I'll have a look.

Eyre and Stratford had to have earlier origins and you have them there.

You can add 1801. Pity not the full date.

You can add death for Robert.

Robert Powell of Prospect who
departed this life the 14th day of
September 1814 aged 64 years

If 1744 is right then age at death is out. Or they are both out a bit ??
