Hello,

Thomas Field otp Widower
Janet Fletcher otp Spinster
Married in Church by Banns
Fifteenth Day of August 1843
By me William H Walsh
Both signed
Witnesses: Arch. Fletcher & ? both of Surry Hills

The Sydney Morning Herald - Wednesday 21 September 1892 p.1
DEATHS
FIELD.-September 20, 1892, at Woodside, Dalhousie-street, Ashfield, Jeannette Field, beloved wife of the late Thomas Field, Potter, aged 75 years.

Death 885/1880 FIELD THOMAS AGE 64 YEARS DIED CHIPPENDALE SYDNEY

The Sydney Morning Herald - Thursday 29 April 1880 p.1
DEATHS
FIELD.-April 27, at his residence, Regent-street, Chippendale, Mr. Thomas Field, sen., aged 62 years, leaving a widow and large family to mourn their loss.

Yes, one says 62 and the other 64. There are also 9x Thomas FIELD convicts who arrived in Australia but I think the pottery connection means this one must have married in England. The 1843 marriage was his 2nd but probably the only one in Australia.

A6131 Ginger beer bottle, stoneware, Thomas Field, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1850-1860
Thomas Field learnt his trade in the 'Pottery Brick and Tile Manufacturer' in Barnet, Hertfordshire near London. He had been born in the same place in 1815 and moved to Sydney in 1842. He set up a pottery at the south end of George Street close to town near what is now Central Station which continued in business under his sons Thomas's death in 1880.

Regards,

Dave

Thomas FIELD baptised 5 Nov 1815 Chipping Barnet, Hertford

- parents James & Catherine

Catherine CANFIELD ?

Marriage: 24 Apr 1815 Chipping Barnet, Hertford ?

76x Thomas marriages in England 1837 +/- 5 years

I can't see Thomas in 1841 but he should still be in England. I wonder if that 'moved to Sydney' means from Melbourne. ???

Thomas and Ann Cater supposedly married in 1836.

MARRIAGE: 28 APR 1836, Graveley, Hertfordshire, England.

There were no kids listed on the passenger list in 1842 with them so would be interesting to see if any kids are noted on a 1841 census with them.

Poor Thomas Field

They have his burial as the 20 -04-1880 yet check his date of death out on his probate index.

Thomas Field - Date of death 27 April 1880, Granted on 20 July 1880.

So if these dates are to be believed they buried him a week before he died:eek:

Thanks, Gibbo. ;)

It looked as though hos first spouse had to be Ann or Sarah, so it was Ann.

I wonder which date is wrong.

I reckon the burial one is the wrong date. The death notice date is the same as the probate one. Maybe a mistake with the burial one when it was put online:confused:

No parents so can't confirm that death in Sydney is the right one for Ann.

I think we can move on. :D To where?
