Yes, another conundrum but 2 likely marriages.

Long story but here goes.

My ancestors were Thomas Johnson and Sarah. They were in Brentwood, Essex in 1775 when their daughter Rebecca Johnson was born. In 1792 they became subject to the Rochford poor law records, and their eldest child was Sarah and her age points to a c1772 birthdate. Other children was Susan born 1778, Thomas, William, Sophia born c1785 and Phoebe born c1789. Susan was born in 1778 in Rochford.

The January 1792 settlement is in Rochford but says they were legally settled in the parish of Brentwood. Thomas died in Rochford in 1809, no age given. Sarah died in 1820 aged 70, so born c1750.

Now I am trying to find the marriage of Thomas Johnson to Sarah. There are 2 possibles, one Thomas Johnson who wed Sarah Burroughs in Dagenham in December 1770 (witnesses Edward Jenner and Ann Wilson) , and one in June 1769 in Barking, of a Thomas Johnson to Sarah Glasscock. (witnesses Joseph Clark and William Everest).

Now in Rochford, in 1809, Sophia Johnson wed Samuel Coote, and a witness was Joseph Clark. Other witness was John Wade, parish clerk. Sophia is my ancestor, she had a baseborn daughter in 1807 called Phoebe.

Could be the 1769 marriage of Thos Johnson to Sarah Glasscock in Barking is mine, if a Joseph Clark is a witness, but there were a number of Joseph Clark's in Essex 1769-1810.
