A part of my tree that I've got a little stuck on - Tom Kemp b1829/30 - (baptised 14th Feb 1830) Ramsgate, Kent. Parents Thomas Kemp (mariner) and Elizabeth (nee Russell).

When I was looking into young Tom on the census, right from the 1841 census he's living with his paternal Aunt Elizabeth and her husband Robert King in Ramsgate, whatever the arrangement was I'm not sure but he's also with them on the 1851 census.

By November 1830 Tom's mother - so he's less than a year old, is listed as a widow and marries Peter Bartlett also a mariner in Ramsgate and they go on to have several children, all the while, Tom is living with his Aunt.

I can't seem to find/be sure of any record of Thomas Kemp's death that seems to fit/coincides with Tom's mum being widowed inbetween Feb and November? I assume they'd have put deceased or something if he was gone by the time of the baptism? Or perhaps my issue is not looking before the baptism and basing my assumptions on that?

Hoping someone can shed some light on it for me.

Hi Kempy.

Parents married after his baptism..

Thomas Kemp married 23 March 1829 St George’s Church Ramsgate Kent to Elizabeth Russell – FHL 1835586 ref Id item 3 p 22

If father was a Mariner, look for deaths at sea..

I thought Tom was baptised 14 Feb 1830 and parents married March 1829?

Is there a special place for finding deaths at sea? It seems her second husband who was listed by one son as a Master Mariner (don't know if he was exaggerating) died 1851 although he had a local burial record, so possibly less likely to have died at sea? I'm sure there would be special sets of records relating to fisherman/mariners etc.... just trying to learn what/where those are.
