Thomas McCloy’s marriage to Jane Millar was registered in Coleraine, Co Derry, on 19th April 1884. He was a tailor from Ballymoney, Co Antrim. His father was Thompson McCloy, an engine driver (ie railway locomotive engineer). Jane’s address in Ireland was Carnrallagh (a townland in the parish of Aghadowey, in Co Derry) which I notice was also the name of her home in Australia. Her father was a land steward and is listed in the revaluation records for that townland on the PRONI site. You can view the marriage certificate free on this site:

Thanks Elwyn.

This one not on a direct line. I'm reviewing 'M' now so will try one closer to a main line in my next post.

Don’t see a death for Thompson McCloy. This man looks to be another son (and so brother to James). Note the middle name of Thompson and that he was also a tailor.

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Shankhill/Snugville/949919/

That took me to this marriage to Jane Lorimer in Ballymena:

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy...iage_returns/marriages_1889/10721/5908573.pdf

The church where they married is High Kirk or Ballymena 2nd Presbyterian. Both were living in Ballymena when they married. The parish is Kirkinriola.

Family in 1911:

Thanks Elwyn.

I checked NSW and Vic. for deaths and found nothing that fitted.

I checked the deaths in Ireland for Thomas McCloy and didn't find one who could have been Thompson.

I noticed that one of the witnesses to Thomas’s marriage in 1884 was an Annie McCloy. A sister or sister in law perhaps? That in turn took me to this probate abstract:

McCloy Robert of 7 Catherine Street Maryport Cumberland chief engineer died 7 August 1933 at Waterford I.F.S. Administration Belfast 28 September to Annie McCloy the widow. Effects £148.

IFS = Irish Free State ie the Republic of Ireland.

The family evidently had assets in Northern Ireland and the occupation of “engineer” makes me wonder if there’s a connection.

Thanks Elwyn.

Not sure there is a connection yet.

Marriage of Robert to Annie ??

Robert born abt 1870. Can't see a birth in England or Ireland. He was a marine engineer.

I can't find them in 1911 English census.

I can't see a death for Annie in Ireland or England.

Have extensive information on Thompson McCloy & wife Jane Millar as well as their families in Aghadowey Parish, Co. Londonderry and also descendants in Australia & other places. I'm not sure from this thread exactly what you are looking for so if you could clarify that I might be able to help.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

This is not one of my direct lines.

If parents are correct on this ...

Death 9707/1942 McCLOY THOMAS - THOMPSON HENRY - MARY ANN - HORNSBY * 6 May

... then I'm looking for deaths of Thompson and Mary Ann, thanks.

Parents of Thomas McCloy of Hornsby-
Thompson McCloy (25 Dec.1830 Claggan-1 Oct.1883 Claggan) & Mary Anne Henry (13 Nov.1827 Co.Derry-14 Mar.1913 Australia).
Here's Thompson McCloy's death (which you had posted earlier, not sure why you think it doesn't fit unless cause of death doesn't match story from descendants in Australia)-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.../deaths_returns/deaths_1883/06347/4820882.pdf

James Thompson McCloy (born 15 Nov.1862) who married Jane Lorimer was another son of Thompson McCloy & Mary Anne Henry.
There was also a son Robert but not the one posted above. The correct one was Robert Alexander McCloy (18 Jan.1854-15 Nov.1890 Dunadry, Co.Antrim), a bleacher.
Other children- William (21 May 1852-11 Jan.1913 N.Y.), Annie (18 Aug.1856-30 July 1940 Australia), John (Feb.1865-12 July 1939 Australia), Henry Pedan (3 Mar.1868-11 Nov.1885 Claggan), Richardson (24 Mar.1871 Mullamore-16 Nov.1947 Wellington, N.Z.).
