Marriage 1867/C0139 Slaughter Thomas - Golding Mary Grant

The Brisbane Courier - Monday 16 September 1867 p.2
Marriage.
SLAUGHTER - GRANT.-On the 12th September at Toowoomba, by the Rev. J. W. Brown, Thomas Slaughter, of Brisbane, and formerly of Charing, in Kent, to Maria Grant, formerly of Hastings, in Sussex, England.

Is it GRANT or is it GOLDING?

In the BMD index Grant is the middle name.

Nothing extra on Thomas' England marriages.

Mary/Maria has her mother as Grant on her death reg.

Nothing clear using either as a surname.

Qld. BMD just has Maria but as you say shows mother's name as Grant.

Could well be another born before parents married.

Don't know how reliable the 55 at death is.

Naomi's father is Thomas. So had Thomas already left England or are they just missing from 1841?

These two are children of Thomas and Mary Ida ...

Joseph Slaughter 15 [b. Kent]
Haorni Slaughter 20 [do] User correction > Naomi

... but Thomas & Mary Ida and other children not yet found in 1841.

We have not yet found the ship Thomas, Sarah [2nd spouse - married 1844] and his son Thomas came to Australia on. They arrived in Brisbane on the 'Mary Stewart' on 29 March 1850 - but that was a coastal steamer.

It should have included son John b. 25 Dec 1825 Charing, Kent who also ended up in Qld.

There are 3-4 trees, I'll see what they say first, though some info is not validated from what I've seen

Geoff

The two children are not with their uncle because Thomas had already left. As you say he remarried in 1844.

So Thomas, Mary and 3 children are missing from 1841. Two had died before 1841 and not sure about Joseph b. 4 Feb 1824 Ashford.

Martha b. 1827, not validated no other details, though another tree has this...

Martha Ann Slaughter
Birth Date: 30 Jul 1827
Event Type: Baptism
Father: Thomas Slaughter
Mother: Mary Slaughter
Baptism Date: 15 Nov 1827
Baptism Place: Ashford, Kent, England
Denomination: Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion

Thanks Geoff. That is correct.

Alfred was probably christened twice, first in Charing as CofE, and again later on 25 Nov 1827 (along with his siblings Naomi, Joseph and John) in Lady Huntingdon's Chapel, Ashford). The family obviously changed to non-conformist.

Oh. That does not agree. Must be a typo.

One has a death for Martha in 1827 but unconfirmed.

I don't have any of the other Countess of Huntingdon baptisms.
