In the 1881 census

24 New Lane Leeds.
Thomas Stainclliffe, 40, mechanic born Leeds
Zaba Staincliffe, 34 wife born Stanley
Ada Staincliffe, 4 daughter born Leeds
Joseph Atkinson Staincliffe 2 born Leeds
Ann Elizabeth 5 months born Leeds.

Trying to locate the marriage of Thomas and Zaba. Zabah's name is often mistranscribed, not surprisingly. Could be Hibah or Yaba but last name should be Sidebottom. They were non conformists but still should be in the marriages.

Thanks for looking anyway Amanda. They don't seem to have married or at least haven't registered it if they married in some way in a non conformist church. They were both buried as non conformists.

They lawfully registered their children so will get a birth certificate.

I looked Barbara and found nothing at all that looked like them searching with Thomas plus Staincliffe or Sidebottom.

I have done some work on the Sidebottoms and a lot of them were nonconformists and we have some strange names like Zabah. Thomas' family too must have been. He was a mechanic (tool fitter) not a joiner and born in Leeds not Ilkley. There must be a Stanley in Lancashire too but mine is in the Wakefield district of Yorkshire where some of the Sidebottoms and Marshlands came from.

Sally was Mars(h)land before she married and her sister Susannah married William Sidebottom and they are my direct ancestors. I am just trying to widen my tree a little and bring in the sister and brother and their children.

Thanks Ellie for that site, will be useful. You know some wonderful sites.

thanks everyone for looking, wanted confirmation that I wasn't the only one not finding a marriage anywhere.

Thanks Rupert that is good to have.

I have never found Zabah in the 1861 census even just using Sidebottom and where she was born. Have found her in all the others.
