Well Thomas is a sly one...told a few porkies..

I think I have found your Thomas... his Ozzie NAA file has he was in the Lancashire Fusiliers Imperial Service 7 years in 1916 on his Attestation Papers, and the only UK file I can find is -

5304 - Thomas STANLEY Stansfield b in the Parish of Heywood Lancashire age 22 year, a Grinder signed up in Manchester in 18 Feb 1897. Then he goes and Deserts on 19th Feb - Reported for desertion in 24 Feb 1897 to the Police. No note to say he was found....also on question if Married - says NO

The pob and occupation fit but age is out again in 1897.

I saw a few arrivals that are possible between 1895 and 1905, there was one around 1904/1905 coming on the "Suevic" that was a close possible but darned if I can find it again

we need arrival after Feb 1897 and before his marriage in NSW.. could he have come in at Qld ?

Also puzzled by Simpson. We have Steele and Sullivan as far as I can see.

Where is Mary Lynn in 1881? I wonder if born Lancs is an error in 1891.

Just a thought… and a complete new ball game...

1901 Census has Mary Stansfield a lodger age 28 b Oldham – married at Emanuel Simpson’s home who is also married age 40 b Bardsley Lancs a cotton weaver and William S Stansfield age 6 b Bury as Lodger’s child and Miriam S Stanfield 4 months b Bury also a lodger’s child.

Could Mary have had the 2 children and possibly Mary to this Emanuel Simpson…

1911 census for South Kirby Yorkshire West Riding has:

Mary Simpson wife 34 b Halifax and line through her all her details..could she have just died ?

So going back to William & Miriam's births/baptisms, looks like Thomas had gone after 1891 and Mary could have been at Emanuel's home for a while as she registered her 4 children with Simpson as middle name before she married in 1906 and if the lodger's wife did the details for Mary's death with her Yorkshire accent could have taken Lynn for Glynn.

That explains the Simpson middle name.

Not sure that someone other than Mary would have registered the birth so Glynn could just be an error.

Thomas didn't enlist until 1897 and we have William born 1895.

Wonder how they chose 1906 to marry?
