hey all any help will be really appreciated as im new to this family research thing im looking for Thomas Wilkinson born 1877 hers the tricky bit he is down as being born coasley Shropshire or bloxwich Staffordshire ive got him on the 1901 and 1911 censes but nothing before I got a marriage cert for him and Nancy and on it says dad is Thomas Wilkinson but cant find anything at all before 1901 so any help would be gratefully received.

Familysearch has a John Stanway marrying a Sarah Wilkinson - 31 Oct 1859 Tipton Stafordshire. Fathers name Richd Stanway - spouses father Jos Wilkinson.

What did it say in the marr.about father Thomas Wilkinson,was he still living ,and was his employment mentioned.
There are quite a few Thomas Wilkinsons being born in Shropshire with father Thomas.

hey there thanks for the reply's I seen the stanway census myself and I had the same thought as you did.on the marriage cert its got both Thomas down as a miners doesn't say if he's alive and the witness are a john Lockley and something else Lockley cant make it out sorry I never even thought to check stanway marriages im thick at times thank you ellie and Julie I really do appreciate the help

Hi,

William Porter had a sister named Nancy born 1846. Jumping forward to the 1871 census. There is a Thomas Wilkinson occupation coal miner, born about 1844 Sedgley with wife Nancy born 1847 Sedgley. Children Mary Ann age 3 and Matilda age 1.

Event place Coseley, Sedgley, Staffordshire

This could be a red herring. Also bear in mind that the name Ann could be used instead of Nancy.

I also had a look at the 1871 you said it all ties in doesn't it so do you think the next step is to order Thomas jr birth cert to see if Nancy is his mother or what would you suggest many thanks again

Hi,

I would think that the birth certicate would have Nancy/Ann as mother. Also the marriage certicate for Ann Porter and Thomas Wilkinson. This will confirm their fathers names. Would it be possible if,you could post a copy of the witnesses signature on Thomas Wilkinsons marriage certificate (John Lockley and ......) could be that they are relatives though I couldnt find a connection. Just post the signatures as a whole copy of the certificate breaks copyright rules.
