Thomas William Fisher was born c1880 the son of Samuel Fisher.

From a newspaper article, he was the eldest son of Samuel and was a signalling instructor in the Carabineers (6th Dragoon Guards). Where can i obtain more information on the 6th Dragoon Guards please?

Hi Myroots

Where was Thomas William Fisher born and do you know when he married?

Ben
Hi Ben and thank you Steve for the links you provided.

Thomas William Fisher was born in Darfield possibly 1879, baptised 1880 Darfield All Saints Church. I do not have a confirmed marriage yet, but possibly married Barnsley 1908 to either Emily Fletcher or Amy Belle Hannam.

The newspaper article also provides information on his 2 brothers, Harry and John.

Hi Myroots

Is this his birth reference?

Thomas William Fisher 1879 Oct-Nov-Dec Barnsley Yorkshire - West Riding ref 9c 206.

I have him in the 1881 census aged 1 born Darfield Yorkshire with parents Samuel and Alice Fisher.

Samuel is a coal miner aged 39 born Kendall, Westmoreland and Alice is aged 35 born Yorks, Barnsley. There is a Mary A Jolling aged 17 living with them also Thoma's siblings Elizabeth A Fisher aged 4, Lucy aged 3, Thomas William himself aged 1 and Annie aged 4 months, all born in Darfield.

Ancestry.co.uk has WW1 service and pension records but as yet I cannot seem to locate a record for Thomas.

Hi Ben

Thank you but i already have that information, perhaps i should have stated that in my initial post sorry. I only required info about Thomas William being in The Carabineer 6th Dragoon Guards, as i do use ancestry and couldn't locate his records either.

Mary is Mary F Jobling the F being Fenwick and also the boarder William C(Charles) is the father of Alice Ann Fisher (nee Jobling).

But thank you anyway for trying to help.

Hi

I did read that around 40% of WW1 service records were bombed during WW2. It could be that Thomas's records were amongst those destroyed.

Their pension records are online as well but maybe Thomas wasnt in the army long enough to recieve a pension once he left.

Hi
I have three ancestors who served in the 6 DG and have copies of the two regimental histories. As these only go up to 1888 I have tried to accumulate further info. If you give me some specific questions I will try to answer them.

Regards
John
