Sarah A Wood Wife Mar 27 - Halifax Yorkshire
Martha A Wood Dau - 9 ? Assist at Home Halifax Yorkshire

I can't match a mmn on a birth reg for Martha A to a marriage for Thomas to a Sarah. ???

Thanks,

If Thomas' age is correct in 1851 (the image definitely says 22) then I doubt that he is Martha's father as he would only have been 13 when she was born.

Yes, something does not add up Emeltee.

Don't know if 22 is correct or if 9 years is correct for Martha.

Marriages Sep 1853 Halifax 9a 433
HIRST Samuel & WOOD Elizabeth

1861
RG9 Piece 3279 Folio 103 Page 16
Civil Parish: Halifax
Eccl. parish: St James
Town: Halifax
County: Yorkshire (West Riding)
Registration District: Halifax
Sub-RD: Halifax
ED: 6
Address: 69 Green Lane
WOOD Thomas Head Mar 62 Labourer at a Dyehouse Halifax Yorkshire
WOOD Hannah Wife Mar 61 Halifax Yorkshire
HIRST Samuel Son in Law Mar 25 Whitesmith & Blacksmith Halifax Yorkshire
HIRST Elizabeth Daughter Mar 27 Housewife Halifax Yorkshire
HIRST Walter Grandson 5 Scholar Halifax Yorkshire
HIRST George H Grandson 3 Scholar Halifax Yorkshire
HIRST James F Grandson 4mo Halifax Yorkshire

So 17 is correct in 1851 for Elizabeth.

Elizabeth c. 26 May 1833 Halifax, Yorkshire
Thomas WOOD & Hannah
Batch: C007492

Can't see a death for Sarah that fits.

This is also worth considering.

1841

HO107/1300/1/F15
Hardwick Hall or Mile Cross, Halifax

Thomas Wood 37 Stover Y
Ann Wood 39 Y
Grace Wood 14 Y
Thomas Wood 12 Y
Elizabeth Wood 8 Y
Sarah Greenwood 17 Y

fs has baptisms for both Elizabeth, parents Thomas and Hannah and Grace Elizabeth, parents Thomas and Ann (short for Hannah?) and also a marriage in 1848 for Grace to a George Booth in Halifax.

Thanks Emeltee.

Thomas Wood [Dyer]
Marriage or Bann Date: 15 Apr 1822
Parish: Halifax, St John the Baptist
Spouse: Hannah Blackburn
No mention of father on marriage.

Marriages Sep 1853 Halifax 9a 433
HIRST Samuel & WOOD Elizabeth

Elizabeth 20 , father Thomas a dyer.

This is not the same Elizabeth

1881
RG11 Piece 4400 Folio 58 Page 31
Civil Parish: Halifax
Eccl. parish: St John
County: Yorkshire (West Riding)
Registration District: Halifax
Sub-RD: Halifax
ED: 11
No of Schedule: 154
Address: 8 Union St South
HIRST Lucy Head Widow 82 Annuitant Halifax Yorkshire
HIRST George E. Son Unm 56 Woollen Commission Agent Halifax Yorkshire
HIRST Elizabeth Niece Unm 46 Dressmaker Halifax Yorkshire

Lucy's father is John Wood, a shopkeeper and Thomas, the dyer may be John's brother.

If that is not the family in 1841 ...

HO107/1300/1/F15
Hardwick Hall or Mile Cross, Halifax

Thomas Wood 37 Stover Y
Ann Wood 39 Y
Grace Wood 14 Y
Thomas Wood 12 Y
Elizabeth Wood 8 Y
Sarah Greenwood 17 Y
... then I don't have Thomas junior and Elizabeth in 1841.

Not sure with occupation as a stover.

What about this

HO107/1303/6/F11
Strines, Halifax

Thomas Wood 40 Woolcomber
Hannah Wood 45
Elizabeth Bates 20 Worsted Weaver
Hannah Bates 4
All born in county.

There is a birth reg for a Hannah Bates Dec 1837 Halifax 22 250 mmn Horner, but whether this is the same Hannah as in the Census I don't know. Can't find a Bates/Horner marriage.

Thanks Emeltee.

I think that is probably the right one.

Daughter Lucy.

James HIRST & Lucy WOOD
29 Feb 1824 Halifax, Yorkshire
Batch: M007492

The marriage register says James Hirst of Southowram, bach, dyer and Lucy Wood, spin, of Halifax

Don't know yet how or if Bates are connected.
