Hi everyone,
I am trying to find the parents of Elizabeth Ann Tomkins. I have her marriage cert which states that her father was Richard Tomkins from Wytham. She married Daniel Mathias Warmington 20 May 1850 at the Parish Church Wytham. I have been unable to find her on any census prior to 1851 when she was married so I have been unable to trace her parents or any siblings. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Chrissie,

Have you Richards occupation, the only one I could find was in Gloucestershire, he was born out of the county, occupation hatter.

Found this one.

1841

Civil parish Chipping Norton

Hannah Deeley age 35 occ publican
Eliza Tomkins age 15 (born abt 1826) occ F.S. born in county

There are a couple of others but the ages seem a bit out.

Hi Chrissie.

I have relies from Wytham and was given details from the Oxford Marriage Index by Steve (P.risboy), I have ones for births and deaths but unfortunately these do not cover Wytham, but I do have a marriage for a Richard Tomkins, Gt Milton and Elizabeth Basson on 21 November 1808 at Wolvercote, could this be your Richard, Elizabeths dad? Wolvercote is a village close to Wytham. This is not far from the Gloucester border by the way.

Gwen :)

Hi Chrissie

Just had a thought and had a look at my Tomkins in my tree and I think that your Eliza and my Mary may have been sisters as I have my Mary now Hastings living with husband William Hastings and her Mother Elizabeth Tomkins and Ann in Wolvercote and as it was quite common to call a child after her parents maybe the middle name is used on the census, Any way the census details are Class HO107; Piece 890; Book; 19; Civil parish Woolvercott; County Oxfordshire; Ennumeration District 9; Folio; 4 Page; 2; Line: 11: GSU roll: 474576

Hope this helps you.

Gwen :)

Hi Chrissie

I don't know if you have found Richard in 1841 census, the only one I can find is one possible in Kent, but it seams to be some kind of institution, maybe a prison. Class; HO107; Piece 480; Book: 7: Civil Parish: Bromley: County: Kent: Enumration District:3 Folio: Folio:18 Page: 29; Line: 1; GSU roll; 306874.

Do you think it is our Richard Tomkins, if so what coul the place he is be?
