Hi.
Am new to the site and was wondering if anybody could help me.
I am trying to find about my surname Newell and to trace it back. Unfortunately it has come to a halt with my grt-granfather John Basil Newell. He was born in 1892 ( according to his marraige certificate which i have bought from 1916 ) to my grt grand mother Bessie Isabel Stone ( also 1892 ) from Liverpool.
They moved to Canada in 1919 and she returned with 2 kids in 1921. Her passport says Brockville, Ontario and my grand dads army records say birth as Perth, Ontario, which arent a million miles apart.
Why Canada?, Why Brockville or Perth? and where was my grt grandad from? are all unknowns. I am not sure if he was canadian or english. His father was called John Henry Newell who was deceased in 1916, but again i can find nothing else about him.
Other family lines i have flukely traced back to the 1700's, but i am knackered with the one that matters.
Any help greatly appreciated or tips on where to go looking that i may have not already looked.
Cheers
Kev
