So where could I go from here in regard to tracing C Neill and her subsequent family?

You will need to get James and Catherines marriage certificate, it will give fathers name, occupation, age of bride and groom, address of residence at time of marriage, also the witnesses maybe relatives. Assuming that Catherine was born in the London area, there are some possibilities on the 1901 census, only one with the spelling Neill the others Neil. You will still need the marriage certificate to confirm fathers name, dont forget James jnr birth certificate as well.
